Well done to Mary Day and her team at St James's Hospital Dublin in opening the Dublin south surgical hub supported by the Health Service Executive National Elective Care Programme. This is the second surgical hub after Tallaght University Hospital . Surgical hubs shorten waiting lists by separating surgery from emergency care and will operate over 6 days 8am to 8pm when at full capacity. They will deliver 10,000 day case procedures annually. This is real transformation with more surgical hubs being delivered through 2025 and 2026 as part of the national elective care programme. All possible through Slaintecare. We had a very impactful session with the Health Service Executive Procurement leads this week during the Understanding Green Procurement session. Siobhan Dunphy, Assistant National Director of HSE Sourcing & Contracting lead the team with Mark Smith, Medical and Diagnostic Equipment and Paul Keating, Digital Health and Innovation, all presenting updates from their respective departments. Members were then able to contribute valuable insights, perspectives and considerations to the team. There is an ongoing process of engagement and collaboration with HealthTech Ireland members to help the Health Service Executive achieve their targets in a collaborative and constructive way, mindful of all challenges. Thank you to all of our members who contributed to this important discussion. Thanks to Onno Klein for the connection! - Meeting with Enterprise Ireland – Engaging discussions with Albina K. and Alan Hobbs from Ireland’s innovation and trade agency, supporting international collaboration. - Finalizing the week with HealthTech Ireland – A valuable exchange with Susan Treacy BSc., M.Med.Sc., PG Dip. on how their member-based organization connects the private sector, industry, and public healthcare through workshops and roundtables. At todays Health Summits Ireland, CTTO & Deputy CEO Damien McCallion and CIO Fran Thompson took to the stage to discuss the future of digital healthcare in Ireland. Damien joined a fireside chat on 'The State of Digital: Where Do We Stand?' He highlighted the value that Electronic Health Records (EHRs) already bring—improving data standardisation and delivering better outcomes for both patients and staff. Fran spoke on the panel 'Can We Deliver a National Electronic Health Record by 2030?' He outlined the transformative impact a national EHR will have, ensuring full access to patient data and supporting clinicians across community services, disability, older persons’ care, and acute settings. Throughout the day, discussions focused on key priorities for healthcare transformation, with recurring themes emerging: ✅ Prevention through intervention – shifting towards proactive rather than reactive care. ✅ Listening to the voices of patients and staff – ensuring digital solutions support those who need them most. ✅ Empowering teams to work differently – creating space for staff to innovate and deliver care in new ways.
