“One of the highlights of my career as an Assistant Legal Adviser in the Department of Foreign Affairs has been my work as Legal Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations, New York during our term as an elected member of the Security Council in 2021 and 2022. During my posting, I saw first-hand the vital role international law plays in the work of the Council and the UN as a whole. An excellent event as part of #IrishDesignWeek discussing the international aspects of Irish design with Ambassador Elizabeth McCullough Embassy of Ireland in Denmark, Teri Smith Enterprise Ireland, Tom Watts, Head of Design Design & Crafts Council Ireland and Eugene Downes, Cultural Director, Department of Foreign Affairs. Important contributions followed the panel discussion from Irish designer Róisín Pierce, Sinéad Burke and the Council of Irish Fashion Designers highlighting support for Irish design and craft across our Embassies and Missions. In 2024, high profile Irish design events were hosted by Embassy of Ireland France - Ambassade d'Irlande en France, Embassy of Ireland, Great Britain, Embassy of Ireland, Mexico, and Consulate of Ireland, Edinburgh, to promote the importance of Irish design.
