  • We know that to address and meets the needs of our local and wider community we need to be able to listen and understand with a skillset and that enables us to reflect and then act! Thanks Charlie Boyle and Donegal Local Development Company (DLDC) for facilitating such a great workshop!

Closer to Home. Often there are things happening under our feet that we are not fully aware of but are life changing or life saving. We delivered a workshop on Cultural Awareness in Letterkenny through Donegal Local Development Company (DLDC) who support a wide variety of Social Inclusion programmes. Liquid Therapy based in Bundoran organise surfing and water based activities for young people with disabilities and the marginalised. Cairde le Cheile is a Community Cafe that employs 26 people with disabilities and the vulnerable and is thriving. Letterkenny Community Centre have walking football and immigrant football leagues on their state of the art synthetic surface most nights. Today's session was fascinating in knowledge sharing as well hearing the inspirational stories of immigrants and the marginalised grasping opportunities by programmes created by the community leaders. Today we looked at the Human Skills required such as Empathy Compassion Communication Emotional Intelligence and Growth Mindset. Privileged work. • Reflecting on our recent trip to present at the Social Enterprise Open Camp in Sicily has been mind blowing! From hearing first hand about incredible organisations like ColorADD - Color Identification System and @elvisandkress to seeing Liquid Therapy reimagined through the eyes of 24 international (incredible) conference attendees from 12 countries… how Liquid could ‘Go Beyond Inclusion’ was truely inspirational and empowering! To then watch the group go onto win their presentation pitch to a panel of Social Investors was just the events cherry on the make! A massive thank you to Elisabet Nyquist Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland and Social Enterprise Academy Scotland for making this possible!

We celebrated #WorldMentalHealthDay on 10th October with Zurich Ireland, one of our partners on the HeadStart Fund. This three-year €3 million fund launched in 2023 focuses on youth mental health and increasing young people’s resilience and wellbeing. 🧠 The event brought Zurich Ireland staff together to learn about the fund and meet some of our incredible awardees. Anthony Brennan, CEO of Zurich Ireland, kicked off the event, followed by an overview of the HeadStart Fund from Caroline Madden, Head of Health for Rethink Ireland. The centre of the event was a fireside chat with CEO Deirdre Mortell and two of the awardees: Aoife Britton from Liquid Therapy and Eileen McHugh from Hair Together CLG. Liquid Therapy’s programme was designed to help young people build a toolkit of resiliency through a mix of social connection, surf therapy and access to nature. They bring young people together in Donegal for beach workshops and surfing activities. 🏄 🌊 Hair Together tackles the social determinants of mental ill-health in young people. Their unique 10-week programme in Ballymun provides psychotherapy support alongside training in hairdressing and barbering, helping young people address limiting self-beliefs and ultimately building their self-confidence while learning a trade. 💈 💇♀️ We are so proud of all the awardees of the HeadStart Fund and what they have accomplished one year into the fund! ✨ Thank you to Zurich Ireland for inviting us to celebrate World Mental Health Day together and to Z Zurich Foundation and the Health Service Executive for their investment in the fund. #SocialInnovation #YouthMentalHealth Ciara O'Brien, Kathy Cahill, Alessia Vozza, Cora Lynch, Padraic Vallely

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” - This is what comes to mind when I think about Sunday’s Berlin Marathon. The heroes of this story are my friends Lukas and Florian who stayed with me when my leg started to cramp. I never wanted to stop so badly. I needed to walk and stretch nearly every kilometer for the last 15k of the race. If it wasn’t for the two of them I would have likely given up. We ended up crossing the finish line together, hand in hand. This experience was a beautiful reminder that you can do a lot by yourself but you can do what feels impossible with a great team. And speaking of lifting each other.. Thank you to everyone who donated to Liquid Therapy! With your generosity and Google's gift match, we raised €4,512! I'm beyond grateful for your support.

  • Great to see our founder heading off to Social Enterprise Open Camp in Sicily later this month to present Liquid Therapy as a work shop for European potential!

#SEOC2024 Another case study, Liquid Therapy from Ireland! Because sports can become a rehabilitative and inclusive therapy… Liquid Therapy is a pioneering social enterprise established in 2011 in County Donegal, Ireland, with the goal of providing inclusive and rehabilitative therapies based on the healing power of sports practices related to the connection with the sea and the beach. Specifically, this initiative focuses on surfing and its relationship with the ocean, targeting young people who face barriers to accessing surfing and other traditional water activities, as well as those suffering from depression and mental health issues. • “It was great to do something with my daughter…we both enjoyed the experience both in and out of water. It brought us closer together, I just wish it had lasted longer than six weeks!” With thanks to @hermoves @irishsurfingassociation and @sportireland for enabling our first (but definitely not last) Mothers and Daughters well being ‘5 A Day’ programme!
