About us
LOETB is one of the main employers in the midlands with 1,000 staff providing education for over 4,000 students at post-primary level and over 11,000 beneficiaries on FET programmes and services. LOETB manages nine post primary schools and twelve multi-programme FET Centres and is also joint patron of five Community Schools located in Mountmellick, Ballinakill, Mountrath, Birr, and Ferbane. Under the Education & Training Board Act 2013, LOETB has a responsibility to support the provision, coordination, administration, and assessment of youth work services in its functional area and, through co-operation with other institutions, provide support to a wide variety of programmes and agencies to deliver education and training programmes that cannot be met by mainstream educational services in counties Laois and Offaly. LOETB has a long history of working in partnership with various statutory, community and voluntary groups. Management and staff of LOETB are represented on various boards and committees across the two counties of Laois and Offaly. This partnership approach provides opportunities for the various groups and organisations to share information about services and to work together to identify gaps in provision locally and provide additional services where necessary. Taking the stage now, Yvonne Foy, Contract Training Officer at Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board. Yvonne highlights the phased approach of the National MMC Demonstration Park and the importance of businesses engaging with ETBs to build a future-ready workforce. She stresses the need for companies to give their staff the time to participate in training, ensuring both individual and industry growth. Yvonne also highlights how Skillnet MMC Accelerate is playing a pivotal role in addressing these challenges, acknowledging that it’s often hard to get people to take time for training. She expresses gratitude to Vision-Built for their collaboration on the new NVQ Level 5 T3 training program, which represents a vital step toward upskilling the workforce. “We can’t survive without collaboration,” Yvonne notes, highlighting the collective effort needed to sustain and grow the MMC sector. #SkillnetMMCAccelerate #MMCTraining #ModernMethodsofConstruction #NVQTraining #Collaboration #WorkforceDevelopment #LOETB

Last week, adult learners from Laois and Offaly came together at a regional forum in Tullamore to share their experiences, highlight successes, and address challenges in further education. This inspiring event, part of the National Further Education and Training (FET) Learner Forum, demonstrated the power of learner voices in shaping a more inclusive and supportive education system. The forum highlighted the vital role of feedback in driving improvements, with learners praising dedicated tutors and welcoming facilities while also pointing out areas for growth, such as access to resources and inclusivity in older buildings. One comment stood out: “AONTAS is really listening.” Events like these show the value of creating spaces where learners feel heard, respected, and empowered. 📖 Read the full article below for more. #AdultEducation #LifelongLearning #LearnerVoices #FETLearnerForum
