Storm Darragh: Putting Passive House to the Test Over the weekend, Storm Darragh swept across the country, leaving many homes without electricity for almost three days. For many, the sudden loss of power was a challenge, but it became a unique test for our Managing Director, Tomas O'Leary, MD of MosArt, and his family, who live in a certified Passive House. Despite the harsh weather and no active heating for 72 hours, the temperature inside the house dropped by only 0.5°C—an impressive testament to the exceptional energy efficiency and airtight design of Passive Houses. While others were braving the cold, Tomás and his family remained comfortable, relying on the superior insulation and thermal performance that Passive Houses are built to deliver. Storm Darragh has reminded us why Passive House standards are more than just about energy savings—they ensure resilience, comfort, and reliability, even in the face of extreme weather. Go Passive. This is excellent Tomas O'Leary, MD of MosArt. In projects we have been involved in where ALL of these measures have been considered we are seeing high levels of comfort and exceptionally low running costs (Average £1/day for the whole year). We are big advocates of geothermal heating and cooling to provide year round comfort but of course any shading as you have on your detail is the 1st step. This is impressive. Well done. 👏👏
