We are delighted to hand over such an important project for Wexford. Well done to all involved for making this state of the art refuge become a reality!
Today is an important day for Wexford as we open a new state-of-the-art domestic violence refuge. The €6.5m facility consists of 12 family units with provision for wraparound services, increasing refuge capacity three-fold for vulnerable women and children in this area. It’s a hugely important step on the road to doubling the number of refuge spaces to 280 nationally over the lifetime of our Zero Tolerance plan. And I know Cuan, the new domestic, sexual and gender-based violence agency, is working to deliver the highest standard of accommodation and to ensure organisations are assisted at all stages on these developments. I am very grateful to all involved, especially Wexford Women’s Refuge, for their hard work in designing and planning this facility. Department of Justice James Browne TD Darragh O'Brien TD

Our coverage of the #RIAIAwards continues today with the Award Winners for the Sustainability and the Workplace & Fit-Out categories as well as Public Buildings and Infrastructure. The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications Headquarters by the Office of Public Works Architects was the Award Winner for both the 'Sustainability' and the 'Workplace & Fit-Out' categories. The jury described the building as an “excellent example of a large-scale retrofit that has achieved great operational energy improvements. This entry goes beyond the RIAI climate challenge targets and is an exemplary retrofit project for Ireland that can be applied to other buildings, making an important contribution to climate change action.” St. David's Holy Faith Secondary School in Greystones, County Wicklow by McCullough Mulvin Architects was a Winner in the 'Public Buildings and Infrastructure' category. The jury said: “This innovative school design is a sympathetic architectural solution offering a myriad of sea views to the school community as the coastal landscape is captured as part of the teaching environment for the students.” The second Winner in the 'Public Buildings and Infrastructure' category was the Rock Wing, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital by Scott Tallon Walker Architects. The jury described it as “a quality design solution meeting the client’s requirement for 5,000 additional patients annually. The design response demonstrates an exemplar, highly serviced and coordinated solution.” The RIAI Awards 2024 are proudly supported by Sika Ireland. Full details are on the RIAI Website: https://lnkd.in/eNYGwJwM The Shortlist for the #RIAIAwards is available here https://lnkd.in/eXcrRZn #RIAIAwards #ArchitectureAwards #IrishArchitectureAwards
