In tribute to the pioneering work of world-renowned Trinity Physicians Robert Adams and Willian Stokes, we are delighted to host the annual Syncope Conference here at St James's Hospital. This prestigious event will bring together global syncope experts for a hybrid experience at the Mercer’s Institute for Successful Ageing (MISA) on 28 February 2025. The 19th century is often regarded as the golden age of Irish medicine, with luminaries like Robert Adams and William Stokes shaping the field. It’s only fitting that Trinity College's largest teaching hospital is home to one of Europe’s most active academic syncope services. Professor Joseph Harbison will open the conference with a fascinating historical overview, followed by insightful talks on syncope service models in Ireland, Italy, and Sweden. Experts will also share updates on interventions, including medications, neural ablation, and cardiac pacing. All are welcome to join us in this exciting and educational gathering! About us
The hospital's fundamental purpose is the delivery of health treatment, care and diagnosis as well as health promotion and preventative services at catchment, regional, super-regional and national levels. Our service remits range in complexity from secondary to tertiary level. St James's Hospital is also an academic teaching hospital. With a focus on ensuring that the population age well in Ireland, the recently published draft Programme for Government 2025, outlines the commitment from the Irish government to continue working with The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) to support ageing needs and requirements.👵 "The commitments outlined in the programme reflect a clear dedication to addressing critical areas such as housing, healthcare, social inclusion, and community engagement."👴 We're looking forward to continuing to collaborate with The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) over the coming years.🥼 Rose Anne Kenny Cathal McCrory Trinity College Dublin Department of Health - Ireland Health Research Board (HRB)
TILDA is honoured to be directly named in the draft Programme for Government 2025, with the explicit commitment to “continue to work with The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) to support ageing well in Ireland” (p. 97). This highlights the importance of addressing the needs of older people and acknowledges the role of evidence-based research in shaping policies that enhance their lives. The commitments outlined in the programme reflect a clear dedication to addressing critical areas such as housing, healthcare, social inclusion, and community engagement. At TILDA, we welcome these forward-thinking measures and are eager to collaborate with our new government to ensure these ambitious goals result in tangible, positive outcomes for Ireland’s ageing population. In this document, we highlight some of the specific commitments relevant to older people in the Programme for Government 2025. https://lnkd.in/evixXybZ Rose Anne Kenny Cathal McCrory Trinity College Dublin Department of Health - Ireland Health Research Board (HRB)
