IT Service Management is all about Continual (Iterative) Improvement, and as 2025 budget planning gets into full swing, it's worth keeping in mind the 👉 7 ITIL Guiding Principles 👈 💎 Focus on value 📍 Start where you are 👣 Progress iteratively with feedback 🤝 Collaborate and promote visibility ☯️ Think and work holistically 🔤 Keep it simple and practical ⚙️ Optimize and automate For me number 2 is critical: 📍Start (and accept) where you are. Too often IT leaders are nervous about getting negative feedback, and wait until they have hit a major milestone or have good news before checking in with end users. This can backfire in 2 ways: 1 - you may discover that your major milestone was a minor one for the business, and you have spent a lot of time, effort & money without delivering value 2 - waiting for good news means you can't easily demonstrate the work done to get there. What we have discovered from working with the best IT leaders is that it is better to Baseline & Trend: - measure early, - accept and communicate where you are now, - discover what matters most to the business, - and then deliver and measure continual improvement as your deliver iterative value. Paul Kelleher AmCham’s Southern Region Chair and Vice President of Engineering for QT Technologies Ireland Limited (Qualcomm Ireland) spoke at AmCham’s Southern Conference. Paul spoke on some of the global recognition the region has received “Cork city being ranked No.1 European small city for FDI strategy and third for business friendliness highlights the strategic advantages and business-friendly environment that make our region a top destination for investment.” Paul highlighted some of the major investments into the Southern region including Eli Lilly and Company with their investment of 1.8 billion across its sites in Cork and Limerick, Proofpoint, Motorola Solutions and NetApp. He also mentioned The Mackin Group’s newly formed international professional services division under newly appointed CEO, Fiona Donnelly, Equal1’s work in quantum under former VP David Redmond, and the work of start-up Voxxify under CEO and founder Steve Fleming. Paul also spoke about how the universities in the region are “hubs of innovation”. He mentioned “Munster Technological University, with campuses in Kerry and Cork, has recently announced investments in its Cyber Innovate Programme. We are also lucky to have University College Cork, ranked in the top 1.1 percent of universities globally.” Paul added “The Southern region of Ireland is a place where business and talent come together to create a dynamic and prosperous future. We are proud of our achievements and excited about the opportunities ahead.
