The Ravid Straussman Lab at the Weizmann Institute of Science studies resistance mechanisms to #cancer treatments with a special focus on #bacteria in tumors – the #tumor #microbiome. Following recent findings and published work, The lab is developing new #drugs (small molecules) that target the interactions between bacteria and cancer cells to increase tumors' response to anti-cancer treatments such as #chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and #immunotherapy. We are looking for an experimental scientist with a strong biological background who would like to join the team in developing novel anti-cancer drugs. 📌 Role Summary The Straussman lab is seeking an individual who would be passionate about exploiting state-of-the-art technologies and thinking out of the box to make an impactful contribution to the next generation of #cancer therapy. This role will require a high level of persistence and attention to details and will center around multiple experimental systems that are needed in the #drug development process, including in vitro, #cellular, ex vivo and potentially in vivo types of experiments. In addition, the role may require help in transferring knowledge and technologies from the academy to the #biotech industry. Qualifications: 📌 Must-Have * MSc or PhD in one of the following: Cellular/Molecular Biology, Cancer Research, Biochemistry, organic chemistry, Bacteriology, or related fields. * Very good skills in learning new lab techniques, following detailed protocols, and attention to details. * Very strong organization and communication skills. * Willingness to work as part of a team.   📌 Nice-to-Have * Extensive knowledge of molecular biology and bacteriology techniques. * Prior experience in drug development and in the field of organic chemistry * Experience in data processing and inference. * Experience in conducting pre-clinical studies in mice. A challenge meeting was held at Bina, led by Dr. Reut Mashiach to address the need for #sustainable alternatives to plastics in #soil solarization. The meeting brought together Weizmann scientists from diverse fields, including: Plant and environmental sciences: Prof. Jonathan Gressel, Dr. David Zeevi and Prof. Tamir Klein. Materials science: Dr. Haim Weissman. Earth and planetary sciences: Prof. Brian Berkowitz and Prof. Yinon Rudich, Biomolecular sciences: Dr. ruti kapon. Optical and physics: Dr. Vyacheslav Kalchenko 🎗️. The meeting explored potential solutions and identified promising research directions. Selected projects will be included in the Bina Nurture Program, providing access to an industry advisory team including Dr. Nir Atzmon, Dr. Bracha Halaf, Dr. Nitza Kardish, PhD and Shlomo Levy.
