As automakers update their seatbelt reminder systems to meet new IIHS ratings, fleets are also impacted by regulations meant to enhance driver safety. These updates improve the effectiveness of seatbelt alerts, reminding drivers to buckle up. However, one issue remains: drivers can still find ways to bypass these safety measures. The human factor—whether it's tricking the system by buckling the belt behind them or using extenders—can undermine these improvements, leaving drivers vulnerable. While the long existing FMCSA regulations require all fleet drivers to wear seatbelts at all times, the reality is that seatbelt misuse continues to be a risk. This is where Cipia-FS10 steps in, providing a safety-focused solution designed to address this challenge. Our advanced AI and computer vision based video telematics system detects seatbelt misuse in real time, sending immediate life-saving alerts to the driver and fleet management. In addition to seatbelt monitoring, the system detects critical safety risks such as drowsiness, distraction (eyes off the road), mobile phone use, smoking and more —offering fleet managers a comprehensive solution that enhances driver safety and fleet efficiency. 🚚Whether complying with IIHS guidelines or FMCSA regulations, true safety requires real-time monitoring and proactive solutions. Cipia-FS10 is designed to do just that, protecting drivers and fleets alike. ▶ To see the real-life consequences of driving without a seatbelt, watch this driver in action (from YouTube): https://hubs.ly/Q02Vs0BD0 🚛 Cipia-FS10: Stopping Seatbelt Misuse & Saving Lives in Fleets 📩 To learn more about Cipia-FS10 contact us at: info@fs10.cipia.com #FleetSafety #IIHS #Telematics #DMS #CipiaFS10 #DriverMonitoring #DriverSafety #FleetManegement

With partial automation advancing, the need for accurate Driver Monitoring Systems is clearer than ever. A recent #IIHS study tracked drivers over a month and found they were more than twice as likely to disengage after just a few weeks of using automation systems. Drivers relied on minimal inputs like steering wheel nudges, even while multitasking—behaviors that worsened over time as they became more comfortable with the technology. The study highlighted that real attention should be measured by eye movements and actual engagement, not just physical gestures. Throughout the study, distracted behavior increased in over 30% of driving sessions when using partial automation. IIHS President David Harkey stated: “If you train them to think that paying attention means nudging the steering wheel every few seconds, then that’s exactly what they’ll do.” IIHS Research Scientist Alexandra Mueller added, "Driver monitoring is essential for ensuring drivers remain focused, especially as automation can lull them into a false sense of security." This reinforces the need for systems like Cipia’s Driver Sense DMS to ensure driver engagement and road safety.
