To inspire and develop a love for reading as a way of life, nurturing humane engagement in everyone.
About us
Bookworm’s vision is to inspire and develop a love for reading as a way of life, nurturing humane engagement in everyone. We run five children’s libraries and activity spaces in Panjim, Saligao, Aldona, Cacra, and Chimbel which are ideal for creative and critical learning. The libraries play host to book talks, author events, and engagements with the visual arts. Since 2005, we have built communities of readers, educators, and artists through curated library experiences for children and the public. We demonstrate the possibilities of library spaces, and the importance of sound library practices by conducting immersive training programmes for educators and institutions, who in turn impact thousands of children. In 2022-23, Bookworm has had an impact on 20,000 children, 1300 educators, and 150 schools and 20 communities across 21 states in India. Bookworm is supported by CSR grantors and other donors. We currently run five programmes: Libraries; Libraries in Schools; Professional Development; Mobile Outreach Programme; and the Visual Arts Programme. A sixth programme, Libraries in Homes, is in its pilot phase, which allows us to reach children with special needs through specially curated play sets and activities that are delivered to their homes. Each of these programmes enables us to achieve our mission by working with a variety of children including those in government schools; community spaces where children have limited or no access to education; children with learning disabilities; with educators/ teachers; and with education organisations. We can help you set up childrens’ libraries, mobile/ traveling libraries; conduct teacher training workshops and capacity development programmes; conduct library audits; and curate book boxes with activities and learning tools to be shipped anywhere in India. Libraries are for everyone.

Books have always been my first love. At Vanavil Trust, we have always believed in the power of books, and our library has been an integral part of our journey. But a visit to Bookworm Library in January 2023 for the Introduction to Libraries program, thanks to Wipro Foundation, was a turning point. This experience deepened my conviction that books and libraries are at the heart of joyful, curious learning. For my colleague Mithra, it was life-altering—her goal in life became clear: to be a librarian and a library educator. We had the wonderful opportunity to be part of Bookworm's first library mentor support cohort and that enabled us to strengthen the revamp into a process and culture thanks to HT Parekh Foundation. Today, our library is the best place in Vanavil. We even wrote about our journey in Teacher Plus magazine—read it here: Library: The Favourite Room. https://bit.ly/4grBy4T On this World Read Aloud Day, I want to reaffirm my belief: a thriving library is central to education and the well-being of children. Let’s continue to nurture the love for books and reading. #BooksForAll #LibrariesMatter #JoyOfReading #EducationForAll #CuriousLearning #Vanavil Bookworm Trust & Library Wipro Foundation @H T Parekh Foundation

Bookworm Trust & Library reposted this
Public art for us means creating conversations in public spaces. That’s what our collaborative work with urbz “Traveling Balcaos” tried to do in Panjim, commissioned by Thukral and Tagra as part of the SERENDIPITY ARTS FESTIVAL “Traveling Balcaos” was an itinerant #publicart installation to create conversations in the public spaces of the city on community, identity and belonging in the context of a rapidly changing Goa. The installation shared the diversity of the voices from across the city, connected by the common thread of migration and dualism of home. An integral part of the architecture and history of Goa, the balcao is a domestic, intimate space to sit and talk in at the entrance of traditional houses, which the project opened up into a #publicspace through #placemaking. We took around mobile versions of the traditional balcaos, across Panjim main market, the bus stand and the promenade by the sea, as a spontaneous way of creating conversations. The balcaos then traveled to the Art Park for the festival bringing together people's thoughts and points of view. The balcaos have now found a permanent home at the community libraries of Bookworm Trust & Library :) More here at The Navhind Times: https://lnkd.in/gFS7xw2S
