#registernow India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, growing at 7% per annum since 2000. This unprecedented rate of development is set against a backdrop of resource constraints, environmental degradation, and climate change impacts. With material requirements exceeding supply, there is an urgent need for a system that is restorative and regenerative by design and makes effective use of resources. Over the course of the last decade, the circular economy model has garnered support from a growing number of businesses and governments. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the need for a more circular model by revealing the brittleness and interconnectedness of global supply chains. The need to build a more resilient economic system to help businesses remain competitive in an ever-changing world is apparent. While the term ‘circular economy’ is recognised, there are misconceptions associated with the ambit and principles of circular economy. "Enterprises are the users of a lot of societal resources, be it the environment or the human resources or the financial resources and in a way enterprises become the trustees of these resources. We have a responsibility to use the resources in a very responsible fashion. While #ESG is gaining currency today, what is required is not only adhering to that in not just the form but also in spirit. "At the G20 in Brazil, a positive development was that the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to climate change on a multitude of issues. At #COP29, a funding of 300 billion dollars every year till 2035 was proposed but rejected by the developing world because the requirements are in trillions and not in billions. India itself requires much more, and globally we need 3.5 trillion dollars by 2050 to get to the net-zero economy.
