I am honoured to have got the opportunity to present the findings of our work on "Financing Adaptation in India" and putting it in the context of cities in India. For more on this please see: https://lnkd.in/gQFDiXJY Thank you C40 Cities, the UrbanShift, for inviting Climate Policy Initiative, Climate Policy Initiative - India to be part of the first-ever C40 Adaptation Finance Academy for Indian Cities. Thank you, Barbara Barros, Shruti Narayan and the rest of the team for the extremely productive Academy!
I am delighted and honored to share that C40 Cities, the UrbanShift, and the City of Ahmedabad successfully hosted the first-ever C40 Adaptation Finance Academy for Indian Cities from October 22 to 24, 2024. The Academy brought together representatives from nine Indian cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Surat, Indore, Chennai, Puducherry, Jabalpur, and Bengaluru), leading adaptation experts (Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, WRI India, Climate Policy Initiative, ICLEI South Asia, Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) and National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA)), and key financial institutions (Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), The World Bank, USAID India, City Climate Finance Gap Fund, C40 Cities Finance Facility and Climate Fund Managers), and the national discussions from the India's Ministry of Finance and Environment, Forest and Climate Change for three inspiring days of learning and collaboration. 💡 During the Academy, cities gained insights on developing adaptation projects, promoting climate-resilient infrastructures, and promoting climate-integrated projects. They explored risk-informed planning, challenges in adaptation financing, and innovative financial instruments available to Indian cities. Shruti Narayan Sarika Chakravarty Abhishek Acharya, Sachin Bhoite Malini Chakravarty Saransh Bajpai Agathe Nougaret and Raj Vikram. 🍀 Six cities showcased adaptation projects, receiving expert advice on building pipelines, engaging early with financiers, demonstrating bankable business cases, and establishing strong governance. We were inspired by the insightful presentations and advice led Rajesh Yadav, Riddhiman Saha, Jyothi Krishnamoorthy, Shveta Malhan and Jazlyn Lee. 🤝 C40, Mumbai, Indore, and the Ministry of Finance led a thought-provoking panel discussing on to embed climate considerations into everyday government responsibilities, including experiences with Mumbai’s Climate Budget and innovative governance structures, and how to facilitate policy and vertical integration! Last but not least, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who made this possible! Tarryn Quayle, Nikhil Kulkarni, Anelise Rosa, Bandish Patel, Shilpa Shashidharan, Wanjiku Ngare, Devashree Ragde, Sachin Bhoite, Shruti Narayan, Claire Markgraf, Andrea Fernandez, Jessy Appavoo, Avantika Arjuna, Christel Bourbon-Séclet, Jazlyn Lee, Marvin Lagonera, Anushri Tiwari.
