Kaushalya Baiga's journey from Mangthar village in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh to a thriving professional career in Chennai is a shining example of resilience, determination, and the transformative power of skill training. Born into a modest farming family with an annual income of just Rs. 30,000, Kaushalya faced significant financial challenges that interrupted her education after the 12th grade. Despite these hardships, she never lost sight of her dreams. Her quest for a better life led her to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), a skill development initiative under the Madhya Pradesh State Livelihood Mission. This program proved to be a turning point for Kaushalya. With her family's reluctant support, she left her village to pursue training in electrical technician skills. Her determination and commitment eventually won over her parents, and she successfully completed the program, equipped with new skills and a renewed sense of confidence. In February 2021, Kaushalya began her professional journey as a Production Associate at Schneider Electric in Hyderabad, earning Rs. 12,500 per month. Although modest, this income marked the beginning of her contribution to her family's finances. She later joined Radiant Appliances, where she worked for six months, further honing her skills and earning Rs. 11,768 monthly. Kaushalya's career trajectory took a significant leap in 2023 when she relocated to Chennai to join Flipkart as a Quality Inspection Associate. In this role, she earns Rs. 18,000 per month, allowing her to make even greater contributions to her family's well-being. Reflecting on her journey, Kaushalya credits the DDU-GKY program for equipping her with the skills and confidence to transform her life. "I have fulfilled my dream and that of my family. Tara Goswami’s story shows how women entrepreneurs can achieve great things when supported by their families, communities, and programs like the Women Entrepreneur Financial Empowerment Program (WEFEP). Tara, from Gunavad village in Madhya Pradesh, is a mother of six and has been tailoring for 15 years. Her husband runs a seasonal band instrument shop, but their income was often not sufficient to meet their needs. Everything changed in 2015 when Tara joined a Self-Help Group (SHG). Through the efforts of WEFEP, Tara obtained a INR 2,00,000 Mudra loan which helped her expand the business by starting a cutlery shop and running a mobile vehicle to sell items in nearby villages. Today, Tara and her husband earn INR 15,000– INR 20,000 per month. They’ve built their own home and created a better future for their family. Her hard work and determination, supported by WEFEP, have not only improved her family’s financial situation but also inspired others in her village.
