SECI’s 1 GW/2 GWh standalone battery storage tender has recently achieved a tariff of INR 3.81 lacs/MW/month, marking a substantial 65% reduction from the INR 10.83 lacs/MW/month price set in SECI's first standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) tender. This discovery represents a significant step in making battery energy storage more cost-effective for India’s clean energy transition. Furthermore, the new tariff is 15% lower than Gujarat's GUVNL Phase 2 rate of INR 4.49 lacs/MW/month and just 2% above GUVNL’s Phase 3 rate of INR 3.72 lacs/MW/month. The trend of decreasing battery energy storage tariffs highlights increased competition and advancements in battery technology. In the past, higher costs acted as a barrier to widespread adoption, but the dramatic reductions over the last few years signal a turning point. With India’s growing renewable energy capacity, especially solar and wind, there is a rising need for robust energy storage solutions to ensure grid stability and meet peak demand. Future tenders are expected to integrate renewable energy generation with storage solutions, focusing on 'round-the-clock' (RTC) power supply, which ensures a continuous, reliable energy flow even when renewable generation is low. This will be a pivotal component in achieving India’s renewable energy targets. Battery storage systems play a crucial role in stabilizing the intermittent nature of renewables, enabling the grid to function efficiently. India's focus on RTC renewables, backed by battery energy storage, promises to revolutionize the energy landscape, ensuring a sustainable and energy-secure future. #BatteryStorage #Renewables #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #SustainableFuture #India

Humans currently produce more than 350 million metric tons of plastic waste per year. Without changes to current policies, global plastic waste generation is projected to triple by 2060, to a staggering one billion metric tons. Plastic credits represent a promising tool in the fight against plastic pollution. By providing financial incentives for waste management and recycling, they can drive significant environmental and social benefits. With robust certification processes like those offered by VERRA and strategic scaling efforts, plastic credits can play a vital role in creating a circular economy for plastics. In India, the combination of policy support and innovative projects is paving the way for substantial progress in managing plastic waste through plastic credits.
