Only one-third of the #urbanworkforce in India is employed in the secondary sector. While the government's focus has been towards #manufacturing led-growth, the job growth in this sector has been modest with the share of workers falling for both men and women. On the contrary, females have entered the agricultural sector, a sector that contributes less than 20% to India's GDP. For more such insights, download our India Jobs and Occupation Tracker (I-JOT): a quarterly tracker sharing our analysis on the Indian labour market. '#CapeTownConversations' organised jointly by Thabo Mbeki Foundation and Observer Research Foundation, on the 26-28th December, exploring critical issues around global governance and development. As the world continues to grapple with complex challenges and evolving digital landscape, ICRIER's Director and CE, Deepak Mishra, presented (IPCIDE) ICRIER Prosus Centre's report on the State of India’s Digital Economy 2024. India’s G20 presidency has brought Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) into the spotlight and its role as a catalyst for development in the Global South. Mansi Kedia moderated an engaging discussion on how countries have leveraged DPIs, such as digital identities and real-time payment systems, to drive institutional change, innovation, and private sector participation. Tanu Goyal moderated a session on accelerating Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) reforms, emphasizing on critical challenges faced by the global south and the need for amplifying the Global South’s voice under South Africa’s G20 Presidency. Together, these sessions explored actionable pathways for transformative global development. #G20 #DPI #MDBReforms #GlobalSouth #G20 #Sustainibility #SGDs #ICRIER Samir Saran | Marie Lou Papazian | Stephanie Diepeveen | Anagh Singh | Jainaba Sowe | Alison Gillwald | Sárvári Balázs | sait akman | Elizabeth Sidiropoulos | Prosus Group | Prosus Ventures | Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation | United Nations | DP World

Excited to share my latest publication, "MoS₂ for Battery and Supercapacitor Applications," published by Springer Nature. This marks my first book chapter with Springer Nature—a milestone that takes me back to my journey from reading my first chapter in their books to now authoring one. It’s been a challenging path filled with ups and downs, but every step has been worth it. You can find the details of the chapter here: https://lnkd.in/gd4zq97Q This chapter explores the potential of 2D-MoS₂ in battery and supercapacitor applications, covering both experimental and theoretical perspectives, along with the challenges associated with employing this material in these technologies. Happy reading! A heartfelt thank you to my co-authors, Dhamodaran (Dams) Santhanagopalan, Dona Susan Baji, PhD, and Shanti Nair, for their invaluable contributions to this work. Special thanks to Dr Dattatray J Late [PhD, FMASc, FISDS, FRSC(UK)], the editor of this book, for the opportunity to be part of this project. #Battery #Supercapacitors #LiIonBattery #2DMoS2 #LIB #BatteryTechnology #SpringerNature

🌾 Excited to share insights from our recent field visits as part of ICRIER's "Getting Markets Right" project in collaboration with #NSE! The Agriculture Policy, Sustainability, and Innovations (#APSI) team (Raya Das, Ranjana Roy) and the NSE team (Shantanu Sharma, Mihi Raravikar) explored the Meerut belt (sugarcane) and Khandoli Agra belt (potato) to look at the value chain, market structure, and price dynamics of these crops. 🔍 Key Observations: 🍠 Potato: 1. The cobweb pattern of potato cultivation led to a glut and low-price realization last year, causing farmer distress. 2. Challenges include the lack of export channels, limited contract farming, and market fees. UP’s potato produce caters to markets in Karnataka, Telangana, and Maharashtra, but structural inefficiencies persist in the value-chain. 3. Adoption of solar-powered cold storage has potential to reduce high rental costs for storage, but several challenges remain for scaling it up. 4. The field visit traces the market inefficiencies in the commodity by focused group discussion with farmers, traders and cold storage owners. 🌱 Sugarcane: 1. Lower yields and a low recovery rate remain significant challenges. 2. While sugarcane’s by-products like bagasse, molasses, and press mud have multiple industrial and agricultural uses, the potential of the ethanol market from molasses emerged as a promising opportunity to India’s biofuel goals. 3. Sugarcane is a water guzzler crop; wider adoption of drip irrigation could significantly boost yields through efficient fertigation. 4. The field visit traces the challenges in sugarcane and by-product’s markets by focused group discussion with stakeholders including farmers, traders, millers. These insights will lead to policy recommendations to improve market efficiencies and enhance farmer incomes. 🌟 #Agriculture #Sustainability #ValueChain #MarketDynamics #ICRIER #Potato #Sugarcane #Ethanol
