Do tune in to hear Ratna Viswanathan, CEO of Reach to Teach, along with expert panellists Maalathi K R, Jayanth R., and Ravina Warkad, as they discuss the impact of the no-detention policy and its implications for education in India at The Hindu Live Webinar. 🗓️ 11 January 2025, Saturday ⏰ 4 PM 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gZkNZp-Z #NoDetention #LearningLoss #GradeAppropriateLearning
The Centre has done away with the “no-detention” policy for Classes 5 and 8, paving the way for schools to fail students who cannot clear year-end exams. The policy was enshrined in the Right to Education Act, 2009, but one fear was that it led to poor learning outcomes. During this webinar, our panellists, Ratna Viswanathan, Maalathi K R, Jayanth R. & Ravina Warkad will discuss whether the no detention policy has resulted in low learning outcomes, how different states have responded to the move, and whether the new rules will help solve the problem of poor learning. We have all played games such as Hide-and-Seek, Dog and the Bone, Four Corners, or Snakes and Ladders as we grew up. Intuitively we learned strategy, team work, resilience, probability, luck vs. effort, tolerance and the ability to triangulate reponses speedily. Play is critical to learning and building life skills. #LearningThroughPlay #SkillBuilding #EmotionalIntelligence #LifeLessons #ReachtoTeach

I have a thought-provoking conversation with Ratna Viswanathan, the First Indian CEO of Reach to Teach on Episode 93 of our podcast. In this clip, we discuss the challenges that are currently prevailing in education funding and focus. This brings us to an important distinction: 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐯𝐬. 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐬 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 is about creating the same environment for everyone, ensuring both boys and girls have access to the same resources and opportunities to learn. 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲, on the other hand, goes a step further. It’s about addressing specific gaps—whether it’s infrastructure, access, or societal barriers—and giving girls the additional support they may need within an equal framework. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧. Every child deserves to learn, grow, and thrive. Addressing gaps is crucial, but we must ensure the system remains inclusive. Don't miss this episode! She was the first Social Impact Leader on the show.. and I was simply blown away by our discussion!

The Government of Arunachal Pradesh and NITI Aayog recently organised a NeVolution workshop on “Improving Education KPIs for Northeastern States,” in Itanagar. Manoranjan Nayak, Executive Director of Reach to Teach Foundation, was invited as a panelist for the Technical Session on ‘Pedagogy and Modern Learning Techniques.’ He emphasised the need for a shift towards competency-based teaching and learning, highlighting the importance of contextualising teaching-learning resources to align with ground realities rather than relying on idealised assumptions. Manoranjan also stressed the importance of building a supportive ecosystem for teachers, which the foundation is actively pursuing. In his conclusion, he noted, "Solutions designed to create pockets of excellence do not work for scale; designing for scale requires a fundamentally different approach." Our stall at the event showcased our teaching and learning products. The content we have been creating specifically for schools in Arunachal Pradesh evoked a lot of interest and high footfalls. We have been working in partnership with NITI Aayog and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh since 2022 to bring children in Classes 1-12 up to grade appropriate learning levels. With a strong commitment to empowering educators, addressing regional challenges, and fostering innovation, we continue to work towards creating a more inclusive and sustainable educational ecosystem. #PartneringForGrowth #NortheastEmpowerment #MakingLearningJoyful #ReachtoTeach
