Digital Confidence: Protecting Yourself in the Online World The United Service Institution of India and Centre for Emerging Technologies for Atma Nirbhar Bharat (CETANB) in collaboration with Safer Internet India and Google , successfully hosted a conference and workshop on 25th February 2025. This initiative focused on addressing digital threats faced by veterans, equipping them with essential cybersecurity skills to safeguard their personal data, avoid online scams, and enhance their overall cyber hygiene. The workshop was chaired by Major General (Dr) Pawan Anand, AVSM (Retd), Director. We were honored to have Shri Sanket Bhondve, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT, as the Chief Guest. A significant moment was the launch of the report Understanding Senior Citizens' Experience with Online Fraud, in the presence of Sh. Nishant Kumar, Director, Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre and Shri Kartikeya Mitra, Trust and Safety Site Lead, Google India. A large number of veterans and their spouses participated, making this workshop a step forward in creating a digitally secure veteran community. Key Highlights: 1. Scammers are using digital arrest scams, fake government schemes, email scams & deepfakes—senior citizens are prime targets. Stay alert, verify before trusting! 2. Google's Digital Inoculation program empowers users with phishing games & real-world scenarios to recognize fraud. 3. WhatsApp & YouTube are common information-sharing platforms, beware of malware-laden PDFs! 4. Strong password management is essential—use unique, complex passwords and avoid sharing credentials. 5.
