UNiTE to End Violence against Women Utthan marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism with the inauguration of the exhibition, ‘Sustaining Power’ of which it has been a part. "31% women in India have faced physical or sexual violence. Yet only 14% sought help." National Family Health Survey, 2019-21. To fill this critical gap Utthan developed local mechanisms, Women's Justice & Peace Justice Committees within Women's Federations. The Samarthan Mahila Sangathan working in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, featured in the exhibition, is one such institution inubated by Utthan. It provides easy to reach, feminist support services to survivors building trust, to connect them with law providing institutions. The exhibition gives voice to the inspiring stories of resistance and resilience, highlighting how they are ‘Sustaining Power’ and sustaining their work amidst multiple challenges. Join us in celebrating the spirit and determination of grassroots women & our team, tirelessly working to #EndGBV. Utthan Gujarat reposted this
Small Steps, Big Impact!✨ Prudent Corporate Advisory Services Ltd., in partnership with Utthan Gujarat invested in 225 Sirohi goats as an experimental project for women in Dhanpur, Dahod, Gujarat.🐐 Months later, we witnessed their incredible journey—producing fresh goat milk through goat rearing, crafting goat milk soaps, and turning this initiative into a sustainable livelihood. A key highlight is the role of Pashu Sakhis—local women trained to act as community vets. They conduct vaccinations, track goat health, monitor monthly weights and stats, and even use tablets for data management. These ordinary women are breaking barriers & becoming pillars of empowerment in their villages.🙌 A small step with goats, a giant leap toward self-reliance. Their resilience and determination are truly inspiring.❤️ #Follow us to witness more such inspiring stories. #CSR #CommunityDevelopment #WomenEmpowerment #RuralDevelopment #Livelihood #SustainableAgriculture #GoatFarming #PashuSakhi

"When we started constructing toilets in our village, it wasn’t easy. Many people were hesitant to contribute or support the idea. But I made sure to visit every household, explain the importance of sanitation, and encourage them to join the effort. During the construction, I personally supervised the work, kept track of materials, and ensured everything was done properly. Slowly, as people saw the progress, they began to trust the process and supported the initiative. As a member of the WASH Committee, I actively participate in our regular meetings, where we clarify roles and responsibilities, plan upcoming activities, and arrange materials and tools. We also discuss challenges related to water, sanitation, and hygiene, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in solving these issues. These meetings help us develop shared responsibility and effective solutions. The capacity-building training organised by Utthan for WASH Committee members has been especially helpful, enabling us to channel problems effectively and take robust steps for our village's development. It has been a challenge, but seeing the change in my village makes it all worthwhile." These inspiring words from Sumitraben, a WASH Committee member from the tribal village of Dodwada in Valiya block of Bharuch, highlight how women are emerging as sanitation champions. From building toilets to participating in hygiene awareness sessions and committee discussions, they are transforming mindsets and improving health outcomes in their communities. This #WorldToiletDay, let’s remember that clean, safe toilets save lives. #WASH #WorldToiletDay2024 #toiletaplaceforpeace #NGOIndia #NGOGujarat #UtthanGujarat

Lataben is a Krishi Sakhi. Untill a few years ago, Lataben’s modest income was attributed to the necessity of working as a labourer in others’ fields, despite having her own farm. She got actively involved in sustainable agriculture and food security initiatives of the Women’s Farmer Group. She now imparts improved farming techniques to fellow women farmers and empowers them with knowledge about their land rights. "Until a few years ago, I had to work as a labourer in others' fields despite owning my own land, which brought in only a modest income. But through the Women’s Farmer Group, I became actively involved in sustainable agriculture and food security initiatives. "Until a few years ago, women in our village had to leave their work and wages to travel long distances for water that was neither safe nor sufficient. By collaborating with the Panchayat, we formed the Water Committee and implemented solutions like rainwater harvesting. Now, even when rains are unpredictable, our village no longer suffers from water scarcity. Clean water reaches every home." — Balu Ben Prioritising community and women led transformation since its foundation has been pivotal in building a critical mass of local leaders; amongst women, men and youth. "As members of the women's federation, we have given women and girls in our village the courage to speak out against the injustices they face.
