When hiring, I’m often struck by how the basics get missed! 😮 While deep-tech roles might seem daunting, the hiring process itself isn’t rocket science 🚀 Here’s what I’ve learned and hope it’ll be helpful if you’re on the hunt: First, keep it short and impactful! 📄 No matter how experienced you are, if you can’t summarize your story in one page, you’re missing the point. Resumes are your ticket to an interview, not a full autobiography! A concise, clean, and high-quality resume speaks volumes, and in a time of AI and spell-checks, mistakes stand out instantly. Trust me, resumes with sloppy errors or loaded with unnecessary buzzwords go right in the bin 🗑️. And show genuine interest! If you’re not into the role, don’t apply—leaders can sense disinterest a mile away. Enthusiasm is everything and it’s the bare minimum expected. Once you’re in the interview, ask meaningful questions about the company’s culture, the team’s challenges, and the competitive landscape 🤔. Trust me, “What are the hours?” is not a conversation starter! Another key: focus on what you bring to the table. I’ve seen too many candidates discuss what the job will do for them. Instead, show what you’ll do for the company. Be a driver, not a passenger 💪. And finally, follow up thoughtfully. A simple, genuine check-in goes a long way, but don’t hound. Overdoing it is a red flag 🚩. One last thing I wish more candidates understood: don’t obsess about compensation or work flexibility too soon.
