AbstractAbstract
[en] We have investigated the possibility of reconstructing the top quark charge through measurement of its decay product charges at the ATLAS detector. Verification of the hypothesis about alternative interpretation of top-quark experimental data has been considered as well. The method of 'semileptonic B-meson decay' was applied for reconstructing the b-jet charge. A statistical significance of more than 5σ can be achieved using this method after analyzing 1 fb-1 of tt bar - pairs data. The analysis was carried out with HERWIG and PYTHIA generators and using the GEANT4 detector simulation package

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present a short description of our last few years experience in the quality control of the ATLAS hadron barrel tile-calorimeter module mass production at JINR. A Laser Measurement System (LMS) proposed and realized in Dubna guarantees a high-precision module assembly. The non-planarity of module size surfaces (1.9x5.6 m) controlled area is well within the required ±0.6 mm tolerance for each of JINR assembled modules. The module assembly technique achieved with the LMS system allows us to deliver to CERN one module every 2 weeks. This laser-based measurement system could be used in future for the control measurement of other large-scale units during the ATLAS assembly

AbstractAbstract
[en] A review of the archive’s documents on the main stages of the creation of the synchrocyclotron at the Hydrotechnical Laboratory (now known as the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems) is presented. The review is based on minutes of the Special Committee and Scientific and Technical Council (NTS), which belongs to the First Chief Directorate (PGU) concerning the era of the Soviet atomic project (1945–1953). The analysis of these minutes has enabled us to prepare a chronicle of events that deal with the creation of the synchrocyclotron, as well as the discussion of the project and its place of construction, the research and development program, and so on. The minutes of two NTS meetings dated May 5 and 12, 1952 are devoted to discussing the results the research and development program in 1950–1951. The minutes of NTS meetings have not been published previously.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The design of an electromagnetic calorimeter trigger in the WA91 and WA92 experiments at the CERN Ω-spectrometer is presented. The electromagnetic calorimeter trigger system in the WA91 experiment has been developed on the basis of 16 CAMAC analog adders. It has been used to trigger on centrally produced meson states decaying into π0- and η-mesons. The trigger required one or more γs with energy E > 2 GeV. Programmable fast electronic modules were designed to build the calorimeter trigger system in the WA92 experiment. It selected events with high transverse electromagnetic energy ET in order to study B-meson decays with π0s and electrons in the final state. The trigger required two or more electromagnetic showers with ET > 0.5 GeV. This criterion resulted in a trigger rate of 3% of the interaction trigger while keeping 25% of the beauty particles. 8 refs., 8 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The history of the detection of the heaviest elementary particle, the top quark, at the Tevatron accelerator using the CDF detector is presented. The basic channels of detecting the top quark and the methods of determining its mass are described. The importance and the strategy of measuring the top quark mass in various channels of the -pair decay at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with a cm energy of 14 TeV, an operation which is expected to begin in 2007, is discussed. The investigations into the physics of the top quark at the earliest stage of the LHC operation are described.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The influence of a turbulent air medium on a laser beam space localization precision was studied experimentally. For a helium-neon one-mode laser LGN-302 and for a solid-state multimode laser DS-670 the laser ray coordinate measurement uncertainties were determined with 1 m step for the distances up to 9 m from the laser source. It was found that the σ values at 9 m distance are equal to σ (DS-670)=21 μm and σ (LGN-302)=12 μm. To reduce the turbulent air medium influence on the laser ray space localization precision, the laser beam was positioned inside a heat-isolating tube. Very significant decrease of σ values was achieved at 9 m from the source: σ* (DS-670)=2 μm and σ*(LGN-302)=2.5 μm. The work is made within the framework of preparation to the creation of high-precision large-distance laser metrology to be possibly used for long linear collider component alignment
