  • ✈️𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱-𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗡𝗦 ✈️ Last year was monumental for Isavia ANS, with over 200,000 flights traversing the Reykjavík Control Area (Reykjavík CTA)—a new record for Isavia ANS. Isavia ANS provides air navigation services for both domestic and international flights within one of the largest airspaces in the world, spanning over 5.5 million square kilometers. The Reykjavík CTA extends from the Greenwich Meridian to the western edge of Greenland, from the North Pole to south of the Faroe Islands, stretching nearly to Scotland. This vast area connects Europe and North America and is increasingly serving routes between the Middle East and North America, including airlines like Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Air India. The majority of the traffic we manage comprises overflights across the North Atlantic, with key customers like Icelandair, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, PLAY airlines , Lufthansa, and SAS - Scandinavian Airlines. In 2024, Icelandair was our largest customer, reflecting its vital role in Icelandic aviation. "2024 was a historic year for Isavia ANS, with the highest volume of air traffic ever recorded in the Reykjavík CTA, both in the number of flights and the kilometers flown. We anticipate even higher traffic volumes in 2025," says Kjartan Briem, Managing Director of Isavia ANS. Every day, an average of 540 flights pass through the Reykjavík CTA, supported by our dedicated team of 290 professionals, including approximately 100 air traffic controllers, 20 flight data specialists, and 50 aviation communication experts. We are proud of our team’s efforts in managing this record-breaking year and look forward to continuing to ensure the safety and efficiency of air navigation in 2025 and beyond.

  • ✨ 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 ✈️ We are proud and delighted to announce that Iceland has now officially become a member state of EUROCONTROL. For decades, Iceland has enjoyed a successful partnership with Eurocontrol, both parties contributing to the operation and development of air navigation. This partnership has also enabled us to respond more swiftly to emergencies such as volcanic eruptions and effectively manage air traffic flow during crisis situations. Notably, this close collaboration has strengthened Iceland’s ability to handle challenges in international aviation. With this accession, Iceland’s vital role as a key player in international air navigation is further solidified. The accession grants Iceland significant access to decision-making processes on air navigation matters at a European level, along with voting rights on major issues shaping the future of air navigation. This milestone also opens doors to numerous opportunities for development, innovation, and collaboration with other member states.🤝 We look forward to contributing and seizing these new possibilities to strengthen Iceland’s position as a leading force.🎉

Time to celebrate! 🎂 🎉 Our hard working Orion Simulator team just finished deploying the all new and exciting approach version for Isavia ANS ATCO school. On that occasion the Orion Simulator team invited people from both Tern Systems and Isavia ANS to celebrate the milestone! The main goal of the current Orion Simulator with Isavia ANS is to adapt and deploy the Orion Simulator for both en-route and approach. Full en-route capabilities were deployed in Q1 2023 and now the team has finalized the deployment of the approach system as well. This means that now Isavia ANS has a state of the art integrated training system for the whole radar environment from APP to ACC and Oceanic. Tern Systems and Isavia ANS have been collaborating closely for almost 30 years now and the Orion Simulator team is made up of members from both Tern Systems and Isavia ANS. The members of the Orion Simulator team are Sæmundur Johnsen, Pawel Sobolewski, Halldor Indridason, Daniele Quaglia, David Karnå, Viktor Gődér, Pólik Marcell, Andor Dezső Tóth, Snorri Valdimarsson, Saevar Birgisson, Þórir Már Jónsson, Einar Karlsson, Ari Á. Jónsson. Both Magnus Mar Thordarson, CEO of Tern Systems and Kjartan Briem, CEO of Isavia ANS were of course present. Orion Simulator is a suite of solutions designed for Air Traffic Control training that effortlessly operates with any standard ATM system, including Polaris ATM and any current operating system. The family of Orion Creator and Orion Pilot work together efficiently to reduce the expertise and labour required to conduct valuable ATCO training. • 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦   Isavia ANS and Tern Systems have been collaborating closely for almost 30 years now, developing ATM systems. The newest and most ambitious product being developed is the Polaris ATM system (see [https://lnkd.in/eNRvndQk) ). The Polaris ICE team is made up of members from both companies and is responsible for developing the feature set that will enable Isavia ANS to manage air traffic over the North Atlantic Ocean in the future. It is time to introduce the last team member, Snorri Valdimarss ✨Role within the Polaris ICE team When asked about his role within the Polaris Ice team, Snorri answers: “As the UI/UX designer my job is to bring the needs of the different users together into an intuitive and efficient design. I work closely with the users, development and product team in order to align the capabilities of the Polaris ICE platform with the needs and procedures of the controllers.”   ✨Professional experience We asked Snorri about his professional experience, and he replied: “I joined Tern Systems in November 2023 and as my first brush with the world of ATC it has been a journey of humble learning. Previously I have worked in all different arms of the design profession from designing websites to consumer electronics to yachts and fishing ships. Prior to joining Tern Systems I worked on making complex spreadsheet work accessible to everyone with GRID.is. I love to learn and dive into the complexity of projects in order to create great human-machine relationships.”   ✨Life outside of work “In the off hours you will most likely find me playing in nature, preferably in the company of my wife, 3 boys and dog, cycling, sailing, skiing, fishing or exploring. Occasionally, I will be hiding away in my workshop tinkering with electronics and making something amazing.“   ✈ 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐓𝐌 POLARIS ATM is Tern flagship product, the next-generation Air Traffic Management System. Moving beyond the legacy systems which dominate the industry, POLARIS ATM uses technologies which will support partner's emerging needs in the next decade and beyond.

  • 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 ✈️ In August, new records were set for both the number of aircraft passing through the Reykjavik Control Area and the total of kilometers flown. A total of 22,568 aircraft passed through the area, flying a combined 32,025,038 kilometers. This marks the second consecutive month of record-breaking activity, as July also surpassed previous records. As things stand, we're on track to exceed 200,000 aircraft in our oceanic control area for the year. It will be exciting to see if we can achieve this milestone! 🌐 It's also worth noting that there was a 5.4% increase in traffic in August year-over-year. August 2023 was the biggest month of that year and held the record until it was broken in July 2024. Here is a snapshot of the traffic on August 20th at 13:24.
