City Space Architecture is 10 years today, 13 May 2023! We are very grateful for the support we have received throughout the years by so many individuals that are now part of our community and are sharing with us their enthusiasm, progressive thinking and positive energy. We warmly thank leading Universities, influential institutions and committed non-profit organizations at the global level that have partnered with us and helped us to develop ambitious and yet very successful projects, spanning from research to advocacy to implementation. We are proud for the ongoing cooperation with UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlments Programme, that started with our participation at the Habitat III conference in Ecuador in 2016, where we launched our campaign ‘Stand up for Public Space!’. Throughout the years we have been shaping a strong and very solid vision on public space, and on the occasion of this 10-year anniversary we would like to celebrate our achievements, highlighting our most important projects: - The Journal of Public Space, the first-ever, academic, open access journal on public space: in almost 8 years we have published 20 issues, engaging 300+ authors, 500+ reviewers and editors and 50.000+ readers; - Public Space Academy, the first-ever, free, interdisciplinary educational program on urban complexity built around public space, that has been kicked off last month after 5 years in the making; - Mastering Public Space, a web-magazine for dissemination of open access contents on public space from influential and reliable sources, including editorials on cutting-edge topics from relevant authors; - Museo Spazio Pubblico, our headquarters in Bologna hosting art-based and artistic practices on public space, established in 2019 and operating throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, currently hosting the exhibition “Imagining Public Space with/for Her”; - Urban Visions, a unique international film festival dedicated to contemporary urban challenges, the first of its kind, with ongoing editions in Bologna (Italy) and Ajman (UAE). We are gaining momentum at the global level, performing as a leading organization promoting public space culture through innovative projects, partnering with multiple stakeholders and engaging different audiences. But, as we always say, the best is yet to come! And we are ready to begin a new and exciting phase of our ambitious endeavor with a mission to push local governments to include public space as a priority in their urban agenda for a better and more humane future of our cities. And to inspire a new generation of urban thinkers to become public space activists and agents of change in their own communities. #standupforpublicspace #Iamapublicspacelover #CitySpaceArchitecture #10yearanniversary

📢 The Public Space Academy is proud to present the 𝐊𝐞𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, featuring leading academics, practitioners and urban innovators working on the theory and practice of public space. We are glad to have as the sixth keynote lecturer Ehsan Ranjbar, Assistant Professor of Urban Design at the Tarbiat Modares University in Iran and a visiting researcher at Aalto University, Finland. He is pursuing public space sustainability from an #interdisciplinary point of view including social, environmental, cultural, economic, political and health perspectives. ☀ 🎵 🍂 🏃♀️ Besides academic activities, he has been active in practical #implementation in cooperation with SAP (Sabz Andish Payesh) consulting engineers in Tehran. Launching FUPS (Future of Urban Public Spaces) conference and Arsan Research Institute (Sustainable Regeneration of Public Spaces) are among his other social activities on public spaces. T̳i̳t̳l̳e̳ ̳o̳f̳ ̳t̳h̳e̳ ̳l̳e̳c̳t̳u̳r̳e̳ 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬: 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐈𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 A̳b̳o̳u̳t̳ ̳t̳h̳e̳ ̳l̳e̳c̳t̳u̳r̳e̳ The presentation focuses on urban transformation at the scale of the public realm. As the nature and typology of public spaces are on the move based on diverse socio-economic, political, and environmental challenges, we need to develop new approaches to study public spaces that would be different to the classic views on urban design. This presentation peruses this exploration by studying the transitions of Iranian cities in the recent decades. 🌟 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 28𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐐&𝐀! 🌟 The Public Space Academy is promoted by City Space Architecture in partnership with Ove Arup Foundation and with the generous support of UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme). #lecture #online #FreeEducation #training

Professor of City Making | MRTPI | Built Environment College Lead for EDI @ Birmingham City University
How can #placemaking contribute to the future of #urbandevelopment in a rapidly changing world? We are pleased to announce the #publication of our new book, Placemaking: People, Properties, Planning. This volume offers a multidisciplinary exploration of placemaking, examining both established applications and emerging perspectives, including legal, financial, and digital dimensions. It is the product of extensive collaboration within the Property, Planning, and Policies Research Cluster, drawing on diverse expertise at Birmingham City University to deepen our understanding of placemaking’s evolving role. We argue that placemaking is essential to the future of urban development, though this future will undoubtedly differ from historical models due to rapid technological, social, and environmental change. The book is available for purchase through Emerald’s online bookstore: Order Placemaking: People, Properties, Planning: https://lnkd.in/eYFcG7cw With the code EME30, you can enjoy 30% off. We are proud to be an exhibitor, among over 140 exhibitors from 51 countries, at the World Urban Forum (WUF), the premier global conference on sustainable urbanisation convened by UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) taking place in Cairo. The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. The first WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002 and has been held around the world ever since. For our booth, we are collaborating with ISOCARP - International Society of City and Regional Planners, Royal Town Planning Institute, Urban Planning Society of China, American Planning Association on the theme "Planning values in cities with adequate homes and public spaces for all". CONCEPT NOTE Planners are essential in crafting inclusive and equitable solutions to global challenges. They focus on developing healthy, socially inclusive, and economically and environmentally sustainable communities, ensuring adequate homes and liveable urban spaces. This is achieved through proactive site or area-based plans, frameworks, and briefs, or by promoting such projects through policy. Planning acts as the gateway to protecting vital qualities and interests, balancing and integrating domestic environments/private interests with public life/public policies to support improved urban development. The exhibition is a joint initiative of City Space Architecture with The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC), and the American Planning Association (APA). All these organizations are affiliated to the Global Planners Network (GPN), a network of planning associations and organisations with a planning interest. The GPN promotes the exchange of ideas and information to help shape consensus views and engage in activities for the benefit of international planning awareness, learning, development, and support and advocates the value of planning. Responding to the theme of WUF12, ‘It All Starts at Home’, and recognising that housing is a key priority globally, the global planning community will be celebrating World Town Planning Day on 8th November 2024 focusing on the theme: ‘Homes Start with Planning’– across the world and at WUF12 we will be celebrating the role of planning and planners in delivering homes that meets the needs of our communities, and in helping to create equitable, inclusive, and sustainable public spaces for all. Visit us in Hall 4, next to the Urban Library, to know more about our current work and future endeavours. #IAmAPublicSpaceLover #WUF12
