Turning vineyard waste into energy – a sustainability game-changer! At Castel Sallegg’s Leisenhof, innovation meets tradition: thanks to a cutting-edge bioreactor from Biologik-Systems, organic vineyard waste is now transformed into heat, cooling, and nutrient-rich compost. This innovation in compost thermy significantly boosts energy efficiency while closing the natural cycle. From the very beginning, we’ve been proud to support and guide Biologik-Systems at NOI Techpark, connecting them with key research institutions to help shape this groundbreaking project. What started as a simple idea from a startup at NOI has now evolved into the first full-scale system of its kind at TRL9, using a dual-chamber configuration for maximum efficiency—powered entirely by vineyard waste. This achievement was made possible thanks to FESR funding, driving forward technological advancements in sustainable energy. It’s exciting to see this collaboration finally come to life, alongside the Freie Universität Bozen, Eurac Research , the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association, and Versuchszentrum Laimburg , driving innovation and sustainability forward. An inspiring example of how research, technology, and agriculture can work hand in hand to shape a more sustainable future.
