We are excited to share that we have three new #PhD Students at CHEI - Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. It is a joy to welcome Elisabetta Santanni, Sandra Slotte and Bill Burress from October 2024. Their topics are fascinating! Elisabetta will be looking at the Aesthetic Experience in US Study Abroad Programs and its contribution to students' intercultural learning; Sandra will explore External Stakeholder Influence on the Willingness and Ability of Micro and Small Enterprises in Finland to Employ International Students and Graduates; Bill will investigate Reverberations of Mobility in Practice: a comparative study of U.S. and Italian Teachers' Storied Accounts of Mobility and its Influence on Teaching. A PhD with us is generally NOT thought to be a lonely experience! The photos show them in good company - Elisabetta with her beloved students and Bill and Sandra with a couple of our inimitable supervisors - Ly Tran and Rosalind Raby. Welcome aboard and good luck on the journey! It'll fun to travel it together.

Just sharing my thoughts about language learning. Always a plus!
Why does #studyinglanguages still attract? Because languages are a gateway to #culture, to #intercultural, #international relations; languages are fascinating; languages break down barrriers; languages enable us to talk to each other ; and... because a degree in languages leads you to a job...94% of BA AND MA languages graduates from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore find a job within a year of graduation. Just saying...we #lovelanguages

Take a look at this 😎 video of our #Intercultural 🌎 #Mentoring Project. #Integration #inclusion #friendship is what #internationalstudents want. And this is what they and our local students discovered together! Supported by the Campus Directors of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Brescia and the Centro di Linguistica dell'Università Cattolica. Thank you 🙏 to Andrea Campisano for directing the course and congrats 🏆 to Sofia Setti for the video, to Linda Favagrossa, Arianna Beltrami, Letizia Roberti and Serena-Xiaole Bai, Calista-Xiaomeng Jin and Roberta-Yuanfei Ye for enthusiastic preparation. Keep breaking down the invisible barriers! #languages #interculturalcompetence #thewaytogo

Another great week at the #CHEI Phd Seminar at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, #Brescia. These adult working students never cease to surprise me. Whether just beginning, getting their teeth into their data, puzzling over findings, rushing to finish, or hoping to get in…their enthusiasm is contagious! So much #energy is shared, so much is gained! Thank you to our esteemed speakers Gerardo Blanco and Miguel Antonio Lim for sharing their research stories - great to see this collaboration between centres! And for the generosity from our fantastic academic team Catherine Montgomery, Jeanine Gregersen - Hermans, John L. Dennis, led by the inimitable Fiona Hunter. Don't miss the next #conversation! #Internationalisation #PeerLearning #ExpertSupport #BetterTogether

#Intercultural #Mentoring at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore #Dialogue, #activelistening and a lively exchange of ideas were all part of our workshops for mentors in CHEI's intercultural peer #mentoring project for students. The local mentors are now ready to meet their international team members at tonight's project launch. A fitting event on 20 March - Italy's first ever national universities day. #InternationalisationatHome #IaH #peermentoring #interculturalcommunication #mentoring @CattolicaInternational

👩🎓 #FacultyDevelopment #internationalclassroom #IHE “Attempts to internationalise higher education without internationalising the faculty are likely to produce intellectually vacuous results that bypass core higher education values and purposes.” In a recent article published in University World News, founding CHEI scholars, John Hudzik & Stephen Dunnett point to the core of #education - the people who are engaged full-time in teaching, research and the third mission. Faculty Development on internationalisation of higher education has been a core CHEI activity since 2016. In Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuoreà Cattolica, no-one is forced to internationalise, but the #invitation to do so is constant. The degree to which faculty perceive their need to internationalise varies, and many are shy to put their head above the parapet. Those who frequent the CHEI - Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation are pleasantly surprised when they engage with #peers and Educational Developers Olivia Mair and Barbara Bettinelli, and find a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We have seen that it is to the benefit of all to focus on the key issues of internationalisation for #academics. Faculty engage in topics such as managing an international classroom, interacting with different cultures, using a language as an academic lingua franca, designing learning outcomes that are internationalised, revisiting assessment in the light of a different audience. We look forward to ever more institution-wide engagement with faculty on IHE. Don't be shy! #peersupport #learninganddevelopment #learningneverstops
