A recent study published in Nature Human Behaviour introduces System 0, a cognitive model arising from the interaction between humans and artificial intelligence (AI). This framework sees AI as a powerful tool for data processing: it is indeed capable of handling vast information, but without the capacity for intuition or analytical reasoning. The human role in interpreting AI-generated insights remains essential. From an ethical standpoint, this collaboration safeguards critical thinking and decision-making, ensuring that AI serves to enhance rather than override human judgment. The study has been developed by leading researchers including Professor Riva Giuseppe, director of the Humane Technology Lab at Università Cattolica, Massimo Chiriatti, Chief Technical & Innovation Officer at Lenovo, Professor Marianna B. Ganapini, Chair of Philosophy at Union College in Schenectady, New York, Enrico Panai, Professor of AI & NLP in Decision Making at Università Cattolica, and Mario Ubiali, Professor of Pedagogy and Training for the Ecological Transistion at Università Cattolica. At Università Cattolica, these themes underscore our commitment to ethically driven AI research and the integration of technology within society. By investigating these new models, we prepare our students to lead with both technical acumen and ethical responsibility in an AI-augmented future. #unicatt #cattolicainternational #AIResearch https://lnkd.in/dtdvatZe

Community and equal opportunities We asked Raffaella Iafrate, Professor of Social Psychology at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, for her opinion on community and inclusivity in an academic context. As the first Pro-Rector Delegate for Equal Opportunities, she shared with us the numerous initiatives she is leading to make the University an inclusive space where everyone can feel welcome. The new guidelines on inclusive language, the Gender Equality Plan, and the Family Enrichment Project are some of the thoughtful opportunities available to students, teachers, and staff. These initiatives aim to make the University not just a place where people come to work and study, but also a place to live. This wouldn't be possible without listening to the younger generation's opinions and using their perspective to observe the world around us. Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/dpjC2uUd
