Chi siamo
The UN World Food Programme is a leader in humanitarian logistics. With decades of experience working in some of the world’s most severe emergencies, WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency and has earned a reputation of being able to reach destinations where others can’t. At the heart of this is WFP Supply Chain. Encompassing a broad range of functions that support WFP’s programmatic objectives, WFP Supply Chain is made up of over 4,000 dedicated staff worldwide who enable the organization to reach 100 million beneficiaries in over 80 countries. The function’s expertise spans from planning and optimization to procurement, storage and road transport, shipping, aviation and cash-based transfers. In addition to WFP’s own operations, WFP Supply Chain provides support to governments and the humanitarian community, leveraging its expertise and assets to enable others through the WFP-managed United Nations Humanitarian Response Depots and United Nations Humanitarian Air Service, and the WFP-led Logistics Cluster. In #SouthSudan, poor road infrastructure, floods and insecurity make humanitarian air transport the only safe way to move to and from most parts of the country. The United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (#UNHAS), managed by the World Food Programme, offers critical support to the humanitarian community to ensure no one is left behind.

In #Ghana, the World Food Programme’s cash assistance, complementing the Government's safety net programmes, has helped farmers strengthen their resilience and adapt to the drought that is damaging crops in the country’s breadbasket and jeopardizing food security nationwide. Since its establishment in 2006, our United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (#UNHRD) hub in Accra, Ghana has played a vital role in enabling the World Food Programme and partners' emergency preparedness and response efforts in Western Africa and beyond. Thanks to the generous support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of #Germany, the hub has continued to provide a lifeline to the people in need. Danke schön.

In #Douala, #Cameroon, the World Food Programme is working hard to reduce our environmental footprint while delivering lifesaving food assistance. 🚂 Our team recently transported 10,000 metric tons of food for Sudan by train to northern Cameroon, before continuing the journey through Chad by road. This shift from road transport to a multimodal railway solution is truly impactful: ➡️ Saving 1 million kg of CO2, reducing GHG emissions by 30% ➡️ Cutting lead times by 14%, ensuring faster delivery to those in need ➡️ Lowering transport costs by 18% By adopting sustainable logistics, we're not just delivering food—we're delivering hope, faster and greener. 🌱 #Efficiency #SupplyChainSustainability

For #WarehouseWednesday, let’s take a tour around our #UNHRD hub in Kuala Lumpur, generously hosted and funded by the Government of #Malaysia. A staging area created in Malaysia by the World Food Programme during the response to the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, 20 years ago, served as an example for creating the #UNHRD network of strategically located hubs, supporting our own operations and offering supply chain services to the wider humanitarian community. #supplychain #humanitarianplatform #humanitarianlogistics

This week, USAID teams met with our partner World Food Programme, who was able to reach 70,000 people in Syria over the last week with vital food assistance. Here, you can see some of their support helping those in need in Homs and Aleppo. It's critical that supply lines remain open, and be expanded, so that our partners can reach Syrians in need.
