Talk about an abundance of important #trade insights! 🌏📈 Taken from the morning session of #UsapangExports (Day 1) during the National Exporters’ Week, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)! ✨ In his welcome remarks, DTI Undersecretary Ceferino 'Perry' Rodolfo emphasized Japan’s role as a key trading partner and investor 🇯🇵, urging exporters to maximize FTAs for sustainable growth 🌱. He also touched on the implications of global political changes on Philippine trade. ✨ ASEAN-Japan Center Secretary General Kunihiko Chris Hirabayashi highlighted opportunities in Japan’s wellness market 🧘♀️🛍️, urging Philippine MSMEs to explore this growing sector. “Trade is not just a transaction, but a transformative activity that could uplift lives,” he affirmed. ✨ Keynote presentations by Undersecretary Allan Gepty stressed the importance of strengthening PH-JP trade relations through value chain development in electronics 💻🔌, making the Philippines an innovative hub for sustainable manufacturing. He called for reviewing trade agreement rules to strengthen supply chains, emphasizing that sustainability is also about people: “This is about human capital development.” 👨👩👧👦🌍 ✨ Mr. Taro Makino, Deputy Director of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, recommended utilizing the RCEP agreement to boost trade between Japan and the Philippines 📦🚢. RCEP simplifies customs procedures, ensures cross-border data flow 📡, and eliminates duties on electronic transmissions, benefiting electronic product exports. ✨ Philippines Bureau of Customs Director Geniefelle Lagmay shared that electronics and semiconductors, like insulated wires and integrated circuits, were top exports to Japan in 2022. Honored to participate in the International Conference on ASEAN-Korea Partnership on 7th November in Seoul, celebrating both the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Korea relations and the 15th anniversary of the ASEAN-Korea Centre. My gratitude to Secretary General H.E. Kim Jae-shin and his dedicated team for organizing this meaningful event. My session was moderated by Professor Dr. Mong Moon Suk with other speakers of Dr. Choi Ina, Secretary General ASEAN-China Centre H.E. Shi Zhongjun, and Mr. Alounkone from Lao PDR. In my intervention, I highlighted my full alignment with the ASEAN-Korea Centre’s strategic focus on green growth, digital transformation, and inclusiveness—crucial themes for deepening ASEAN-Korea relations. My commendations to Dr. Ina Choi for her insightful presentation and the ASEAN-Korea Centre for its impactful work, especially in the areas of supply chain resilience, cultural heritage, data insights, and youth engagement. I raised several strategic questions to inspire reflection, applicable across ASEAN plus one and three initiatives, including: 1) Digital inclusivity: Ensuring everyone benefits from technological advancements, minimizing divides. 2) Inclusiveness in decision-making: Actively involving young people and underserved sectors in shaping policies. 3) Balancing supply chain resilience with social responsibility: Making economic viability compatible with environmental and social equity. 4) Cultural heritage preservation: Engaging youth as active stewards of cultural heritage. 5) Balancing speed and direction: Striving for swift yet thoughtful progress through robust monitoring systems. At the ASEAN-Japan Centre, we are advancing similar initiatives, aligning with the new ASEAN Vision 2045 by transitioning from our current AJC 5.0 strategy (2022-2025) to the forthcoming AJC 5.5 (2025-2030).
