About us

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA Kenya) is a think-tank that provides a platform for informed discussions in order to influence public policy in Kenya. We seek to promote pluralism of ideas through open, active and informed debate on public policy issues. We undertake research and conduct public education on key economic and topical issues in public affairs in Kenya and the region, and utilise the outcomes of the research for policy dialogue and to influence policy making. Incorporated in Kenya in 1994, under the Companies Act as a company without share capital, under the Memorandum and Articles of Association; and limited by guarantee of its members, IEA Kenya is independent of political parties, pressure groups and lobbies, or any other partisan interests. IEA Kenya is governed by a non-executive board of directors responsible for directing and overseeing the operations of the institute: the programmes, administration and the general membership.

  • As we conclude the two-day CSO training in Isiolo County and wrap up Year One of the @USAIDKenya Closing Gaps Program activities, we proudly reflect on the journey so far: Successfully trained over 110 participants from five CSOs across five counties, equipping them to advocate for stronger health systems, improved policies, and enhanced accountability to safeguard health resources from mismanagement or diversion. Additionally, strengthened the capacity of over 80 MCAs and technical staff from budget and health committees across the five counties on how to use & interpret health and budget data to enforce accountability on the county executive throughout the budget cycle for improved health service delivery. We remain committed to supporting County Assemblies in enhancing their oversight capabilities for better governance and the delivery of essential public goods, particularly health services. This program is dedicated to addressing and closing critical gaps in health service delivery. #EquitableHealthServicesKE

  • The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Kenya, with support from @USAIDKenya under the #ClosingGaps in Devolved Health Service Delivery Program, is hosting a two-day capacity-strengthening workshop for Isiolo County Civil Society Organizations. The training focuses on enhancing participants' knowledge of the budget cycle, its link to budget-making and social accountability processes, health financing (with an emphasis on own-source revenue), and effectively accessing, understanding, and utilizing health and budget information. By bolstering their capacity to identify key health priorities, the workshop empowers them to advocate for better health resourcing, efficient spending, accountability, and good governance, ultimately driving better health service delivery in the county. The project is being implemented in partnership with @Concern and Development Transformation. #EquitableHealthServicesKE

  • We are in @Kakamega_037 Today, the @IEAKenya-led consortium under the USAID Closing Gaps Program kicked off the first of a three-day training session focused on capacity strengthening for civil society organizations. The training aims to enhance CSOs' access to and use of county health information, as well as their understanding of Own-Source Revenue (OSR) collection, allocation, and utilization processes. The goal is to empower CSOs to engage more effectively in decision-making, particularly around resource allocation, and to improve their oversight capabilities by identifying non-financial targets and key information sources. The session is highly interactive, equipping CSOs with vital tools to strengthen oversight and accountability within health facilities and departments. #EquitableHealthServicesKE
