The Kenya Quality Policy is a proposed strategic document designed to support Kenya’s vision of becoming “a globally competitive and prosperous nation with a high quality of life by 2030.” To realize this ambition, the State Department for Industry (SDI), in collaboration with the BSI under the Standards Partnership Programme, convened an inception meeting at the Pullman Hotel, Nairobi. Key partners included the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS), Kenya Bureau of Standards, Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS), and Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) The meeting focused on preparing strategies to implement the quality matrix for the leather industry, aiming to enhance the quality and acceptance of Kenyan leather products both locally and internationally. The workshop brought together diverse stakeholders from the leather sector. KENAS emphasized the critical role of accreditation in ensuring the competence of inspection, testing, and certification services within leather production and manufacturing processes. As an active contributor to this initiative, KENAS is proud to play a role in advancing the Kenya Quality Policy. We are optimistic that its implementation will expand the global reach of Kenyan leather products, strengthening the country’s position in international markets. #KenyaQualityPolicy #KenyanLeather #KENAS #AccreditationMatters CS Dr. Walter Juma Ongeti, Ph.D, MBA, FKIM.
