Yesterday, we had the privilege of meeting with the Director of the Environment Kenya Council of Governors (CoG) to discuss potential partnerships focused on water resource management in Kenya. Our conversation was insightful and productive, covering several key areas of collaboration: 1. Advocating for the implementation of the Intergovernmental Framework for Water. 2. Ensuring the participation of Water Resources Users Associations (WRUAs) in the Devolution Conference, held biennially, where WRUAs can conduct side events on pertinent water-related topics. 3. Establishing clear guidelines that define the relationship between WRUAs and county governments, facilitating a better understanding of their interactions. 4. Creating a framework for community engagement that acknowledges the unique characteristics of both county governments and WRUAs. As outlined in the Water Act of 2016, county governments hold significant responsibilities for the conservation and protection of water resources. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen our collaboration with WRUAs to achieve these goals effectively. I am looking forward to our upcoming follow-up meeting with the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Water and the CoG CEO in the second week of January 2025. Together, we can make meaningful progress in water resource management for the betterment of our communities. 🌊 Today, led by our CEO Enock Ole Kiminta the women in water leadership engaged in powerful discussion groups focused on the challenges faced by women leaders in the water sector. The insights shared were nothing short of eye-opening, as we tackled pressing issues that undermine our progress and safety in this vital field. A particularly alarming theme emerged across all three groups: the prevalence of #SEXTORTION, #SEXUAL violence, the denial and the #FEAR to report these injustices. These realities not only affect the well-being of individuals but also hinder the advancement and sustainability of the water sector as a whole. It's crucial that we spotlight these challenges and engage in meaningful conversations to develop actionable solutions. Together, we can advocate for stronger protections, create supportive environments, and ensure that women in our industry feel safe and valued.
