The Kenya Water and Sanitation CSOs Network (KEWASNET) is a national membership organization formed in 2007 consisting of a Civil Society Organization working in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene sector.
The overall purpose of KEWASNET is to influence the policy environment to ensure Kenyans have access to affordable and safe water and sanitation services in a sustainable context.
The network is a voice for the majority of Kenya's voiceless citizens who on an ongoing basis, survive without adequate water and sanitation services.
Broadly, KEWASNET provides a linkage between service providers and consumers by facilitating partnerships between policymakers and stakeholders and encouraging equitable participation by all parties in governance and decision-making mechanisms.
Reliable data is essential for addressing hidden issues like sextortion in the WASH sector. Unfortunately, the lack of accurate information has made it challenging to tackle this challenge effectively. By collecting and analysing data, we can build a compelling case to advocate for policies and programs that protect women and girls from sextortion.

Communities are powerful when united. They can serve as the first line of defence against violence, creating networks of support and safety for women and girls. Let us join hands in building and strengthening these community networks to promote safety, respect, and zero tolerance for abuse.

Empowering women economically is a game-changer. By providing access to resources and opportunities, we can help them build stable incomes and the confidence to stand up for their rights. Let us continue championing initiatives that foster financial independence and drive gender equity.

Kenya’s Constitution enshrines the right to water. Yet, for many women and girls in informal settlements, accessing this basic right often means enduring harassment and exploitation. Water and sanitation services must be safe, accessible, and equitable—free from fear, discrimination, or abuse.
As we continue to champion human rights, let us also work together to ensure no one is left behind in accessing this fundamental necessity.

Sextortion remains a silent epidemic in many parts of the world, as it is not widely recognized as a crime. This lack of legal recognition leaves victims, often women and girls, without protection or justice, while perpetrators act with impunity.
It is time to bridge this gap. Policymakers must act to define sextortion as a form of corruption, create laws that protect the rights of victims, and ensure accountability for offenders.

Every day, countless women and girls face safety risks when accessing water and sanitation facilities that lack essential security features like privacy and proper lighting. No one should have to choose between safety and meeting basic needs. Let us ensure public WASH facilities are safe, secure, and designed to uphold the dignity of every user. Safety isn’t a privilege—it’s a standard we must demand and deliver.
