Thank you very much GOGLA for the mention! This grant from Efficiency for Access is pivotal in our strategic journey, enabling us to accelerate the development of high-efficiency AC motors. These motors will not only enhance our current offerings but also pave the way for deploying agri-processing machinery in minigrids and standalone renewable energy systems. Historically, inefficient and high inrush currents of induction motors have posed significant challenges in operating agricultural and food processing machinery. Our innovative AC motors address this issue, representing a significant win for both agriculture and renewable energy! We are excited to announce that Productive Solar Solutions (PSS) has been awarded a grant from the Efficiency for Access (E for A) Research and Development Fund, as part of a US$ 1.7M pool shared among 11 innovative companies. This funding will support our project focused on developing and deploying High Efficiency AC Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) for small-scale agricultural machinery in off- and weak-grid areas such as minigrids and standalone solar systems. Our project aims to produce 14 PMSMs with matched drivers, specifically designed to reduce inrush currents and enhance operational efficiency. These motors will be integrated into 20 different agricultural and food processing machines to be tested across Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda. By improving the availability, affordability, and performance of these technologies, we aim to support sustainable energy use and rural development for small scale farmers and food processors. The Efficiency for Access Research and Development Fund, supported by UK Aid Direct and the IKEA Foundation, seeks to accelerate the availability, affordability, efficiency, and performance of a range of appliances suited to rural developing country contexts. Since its inception, the Fund has supported 38 projects with over £5 million in funding. Energy Saving Trust manages the Fund, coordinated jointly by CLASP. We were thrilled to showcase our latest innovations, including solar-powered rice mills, maize hullers, and hammer mills, providing insights into how these technologies are revolutionizing agricultural practices. Our agro-processing machines are designed to cater to diverse needs, seamlessly integrating with both DC and AC power sources, thereby ensuring versatility and accessibility. At Productive Solar Solutions, our focus remains steadfast on empowering smallholder farmers and small food processors, who constitute 80% of all food consumed in Sub-Saharan Africa. Guided by our CEO, Gregory Denn, and COO, Ismael Kipyegon Bett, the visit was a dynamic exploration of the agro-processing energy-efficient equipment that Productive Solar Solutions has been crafting and refining over the years. The tour included a walkthrough of our new factory, showcasing the wide array of farm and agro-processing machines. Our distinguished guests were treated to a live demonstration of our solar-powered rice mills, maize hullers, and hammer mills, providing a firsthand experience of our commitment to sustainable solutions. At Productive Solar Solutions, our agro-processing machines are designed to connect under DC through brushless DC motors, supported by panels and lithium-based batteries. Simultaneously, many of our offerings are tailored for AC conditions using AC induction motors. Beyond Kenya, we're actively shipping these transformative machines to over 12 African countries, including West Africa. Our primary focus remains on smallholder farmers and small food processors, constituting 80% of all food consumed in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our goal is to boost their productivity, transforming them into thriving businesses that generate increased income. In line with our commitment to inclusivity, we're dedicated to enhancing our AC motors, catering to customers in weak AC grids, including minigrids and off-grid solar installations fitted with inverters.
