What has wildlife ever done for us? 📝 New research study from WWF on the concept of Nature’s Contributions to People outlines how wildlife is core to meeting human needs, shaping the ecosystems we depend on and invisibly supporting our economies, playing critical roles in regulating ecosystems, pollinating plants and reducing disease risk. 🦈 🦇 🐝🐿️🌱🌾
What is the point of wildlife? Why are they important to us? Why should we spend resources on wildlife when it should rather go to our needs? These questions and more are effectively answered in a scientific paper launched today in the inaugural edition of a new Nature journal. Wildlife are core to meeting human needs, shaping the ecosystems we depend on and invisibly supporting our economies. Without wild species - those individual pixels that make up all ecosystems - we would lose the key benefits that underpin all life on earth, including our own. Dive into these questions and many more in the paper, as well as www.naturestechnicians.org, our report which brings all these concepts to life. Press release and paper both here: https://lnkd.in/dR2eK_JS These findings should be a resounding message to delegates attending the second session of CBD CoP16 next month - ensuring the right levels of ambition and resourcing for the Global Biodiversity Framework is not just important for nature, but for us too.
