Have you seen the Netflix film #Yintah? It captures the struggle of the Wet’suwet’en people as they resist #LNG pipeline expansion on their unceded land. Today, members of the Wet’suwet’en community visited Solutions for Our Climate (기후솔루션)'s office to share their story and call for action. Their message was clear: fossil fuel expansion in British Columbia (B.C.) is fueling climate destruction and violating Indigenous rights. The Wet’suwet’en representatives emphasized the urgent need to stop LNG projects that threaten their unceded land, calling for accountability from corporations and financial backers enabling this expansion. 📍What’s happening? #Climate #Destruction: LNG extraction from Canada’s Montney Fracking Fields is one of the world’s largest carbon bombs. #Corporate & #Financial #Enablers: Samsung Heavy Industries is building floating storage units for Cedar LNG, while Korea Gas Corporation(KOGAS), South Korea’s state-run gas company, holds a 5% stake in the project. #Human #Rights #Violations: The Wet’suwet’en people never ceded their land, yet Canadian authorities are using force to push LNG pipelines through. The fight for climate justice is global. These projects have far-reaching consequences, and we must transition to #renewable #energy and #sustainable #economic #models that prioritize both people and the planet. 🔍Learn more about their story here https://lnkd.in/gdYyPHvk 🔍Download SFOC’s reports on the issue here https://lnkd.in/g9fdjgnf #StopLNG #ClimateJustice #NoMorePipelines #DivestFromFossilFuels #IndigenousRights

🚨 New Lead The Charge Leaderboard Released – #Hyundai & #Kia Fall Behind This isn’t just a climate failure—it’s a #brand and #investor #risk. Global leaders like Volvo, Apple, and Microsoft are demanding #clean #steel, yet Hyundai is failing to keep up. Meanwhile, Kia lacks binding emissions reduction targets for its suppliers, raising further concerns about Hyundai Motor Group's overall climate commitments. Without urgent action, both brands risk falling behind their European and U.S. competitors. ‼️Hyundai Steel: A Missed Green Steel Opportunity As a key supplier to Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Steel launched its #HyECOsteel brand in 2023, positioning itself for leadership in #decarbonization with 34.6% of production from electric arc furnaces (EAFs). Yet, Hyundai Steel remains heavily reliant on coal-fired blast furnaces and is investing in fossil fuel infrastructure, including a new 499 MW gas power plant at Dangjin Steel Works. Without commitments to renewable energy, green hydrogen, or green iron, its net-zero goals lack credibility. ‼️Kia Worldwide : Supply Chain Commitments Fall Short Kia claims to assess ESG risks in its supply chain and train suppliers on carbon management, but it does not require binding emissions reduction targets. Without stronger commitments and transparency on supplier audits, Kia risks lagging behind global climate standards. The clean energy transition is happening now. Will they take the wheel— or be left behind? 🔍Check out the new 2025 leaderboard here https://lnkd.in/ds-9wBxc 🔍Download SFOC’s report on the issue here https://lnkd.in/e5KG9qXD #Hyundai #Kia #GreenSteel #LeadTheCharge #NetZero #FossilFreeFuture #ClimateAction

🚨Should you avoid #Samsung? Samsung Electronics has been a cornerstone of South Korea’s economy, but their future plans raise some important questions about #sustainability. While Samsung leads in global #semiconductors and has pledged to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, their major investment in a massive semiconductor complex in Yongin, set to be powered mostly by #fossil #fuels, threatens to undermine these commitments. With increasing global pressure for cleaner energy and the need for accountability, Samsung’s actions will affect not only the environment but also their sales to clients with Scope 3 emissions reduction targets, such as Apple, Google and Microsoft. While industry competitors are increasingly exploring how to improve sustainability in semiconductor manufacturing, Samsung is committing to a future of being locked in the past. 🎥 Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/gnDv9r82 🔎 Read more in SFOC's Insights blog: https://lnkd.in/gg2e8QFq #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #Samsung

By now, it should be clear that large-scale #biomass doesn’t qualify as renewable energy. Solutions for Our Climate (기후솔루션) published an issue brief explaining Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s plan to reduce subsidies for biomass energy, including ending Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for new biomass power plants starting in 2025. Existing facilities will see gradual reductions in support over the coming years. The move aims to reduce reliance on imported biomass and shift towards domestic feedstocks, in which it falls short of what's needed. While it's a step in the right direction, it does not fully address the environmental concerns: 🔹High REC weightings for domestic 'unused forest biomass' remain, threatening local forests. 🔹The gradual phase-out for existing biomass plants means delaying a full transition to truly renewable energy sources like #solar and #wind. 🌞💨 What more should the #government do? 🔹Shift away from large-scale burning of domestic forest biomass. 🔹Accelerate the timeline for cutting all biomass subsidies. 🔹Boost support for genuine renewable energy and nature-positive alternatives. ‼️South Korea's energy transition requires more decisive action. 🔍 Check out the full report by SFOC for more details: https://lnkd.in/gGU-rx-K 🔍 Our statement on the issue here: https://lnkd.in/gSSTz-mn #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #Biomass #EnergyTransition

The Associated Press reported on South Korea’s decision to scale back #biomass subsidies following rising criticism over its link to deforestation. While the reforms include ending subsidies for new biomass plants and phasing out support for some existing facilities, environmental groups warn that loopholes and slow timelines could undermine progress. South Korea remains the world’s third-largest importer of biomass fuels, with recent reports linking imports to deforestation in Indonesia. Solutions for Our Climate (기후솔루션)'s Hansae Song provided commentary to AP, emphasizing that large-scale biomass power has no place in a renewable energy future. A faster transition to genuine renewable energy are needed to ensure meaningful climate action. 🔍 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gRCX5XBM 🔍 Check out the full report by SFOC for more details: https://lnkd.in/gGU-rx-K #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #Biomass #Sustainability #EnergyTransition
