Personal reflections after 6 Months in the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) The Team: NSPA is a community of around 1,500 professionals from across NATO’s 32 nations. The majority are based in beautiful Luxembourg 🇱🇺, with main operational centres in France, Hungary and Italy Not to mention the dedicated personnel deployed on, or supporting, NATO operations around the globe. We are truly diverse—not just in nationality, but also in skillsets. From technical experts and procurement specialists to HR, legal, finance, operations, and P3M professionals, NSPA brings together a wealth of talent and expertise. But diversity alone doesn’t guarantee excellence. Strong leadership, teamwork, and a shared ethos require constant nurturing and investment. Cultural Insights: Our working language is English, yet 99% of the staff are multilingual. It’s remarkable to witness this linguistic and cultural adaptability in action. Unsurprisingly, Brits (myself included) often lag in the second-language department, but I’m working on my French—slowly but surely. Mange-tout, anyone? I’ve made a conscious effort to listen more than I talk. It sounds obvious, but it’s easy to overlook—especially as a native English speaker in an English-speaking organization. Erin Meyer’s The Culture Map has been a game-changer for me. Its insights on “decoding how people think, lead, and collaborate across cultures” have been invaluable, helping me navigate potential pitfalls. It’s a must pre-read for anyone working in multicultural teams. Universal Truths: No matter the nationality, culture, or background, certain traits unite us all: kindness, communication, empathy, and trust. These values are the foundation of any successful team, and they’re as important here as they were in my previous roles. Looking Ahead: These six months have flown by, and I’ve learned so much already. Did you know we are always hiring? Take a look at the vacancies on our webpage. My next post will focus on operational reflections—things I wish I’d known about NSPA while serving in the British Army. Stay tuned!
