ESG Adria Summit

Business Consulting and Services

Annual regional event dedicated to ESG topics & sustainable development. // Formerly called Western Balkans ESG Summit.

About us

ESG Adria Summit will take place in Porto Montenegro from 24th to 26th April 2024, bringing together business leaders, high-level government, international organisations, civil society representatives, and sustainability experts from the Adria region and beyond. This year’s event expands on the legacy of the highly successful inaugural Western Balkans ESG Summit 2023, the first major regional event devoted to sustainable development and dialogue on greater responsibility of the business sector regarding environmental, social and governance standards (ESG) in practice. Last year, over 500 attendees from over 150 companies, governments, and other organisations gathered to discuss the implications of ESG for “The Business of the Future” in the Western Balkans. This year, we will convene under the banner “Act Now for a Sustainable Tomorrow” to identify and discuss new solutions, initiatives and investments that can help accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future and ESG agenda in Adria and beyond. Keynotes, panels and workshops under the Summit’s 2024 themes Sustainable Finance, Green Transition and Social Licence to Operate will all focus on real regional issues and practical solutions to empower businesses to set and achieve their ESG objectives and regulatory compliance requirements. ESG Adria Summit is organized by Sustineri Partners and Porto Montenegro, in partnership with the Government of Montenegro and under the auspices of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

As we get ready for the ESG Adria Summit, we spent the past few days in Budva with journalists from 🇲🇪 media, discussing ESG, sustainability, and the role of the media in shaping public awareness. The Sustainable Adria Media Program, supported by The AIRE Centre Western Balkans and Sustineri Partners, was an opportunity to dive deeper into what ESG truly means for our economy and society. It was a pleasure to share this space with professionals who understand that ESG is not just about policies and reports—it’s about people, accountability, and the choices we make every day. I’m glad to have been part of the team that brought this program to life and to have had the chance to collaborate with such inspiring people: Biljana Braithwaite, Đina Popović, Nevena Dicic Kostic, Tamara Dzuver and Nedim Jahić. As we look forward to the ESG Adria Summit, we are preparing more activities to bring the importance of ESG closer to the general public and all stakeholders in 🇲🇪.

The Sustainable Adria Media Program, organized by The AIRE Centre Western Balkans and Sustineri Partners, was held today in Budva to strengthen media cooperation on ESG, sustainability, and the rule of law in business. Journalists, experts, and business representatives gathered to discuss key ESG challenges and opportunities. Speakers Biljana Braithwaite, Nemanja Z. Boljević, Nevena Dicic Kostic, Tamara Dzuver, and Nedim Jahić shared insights on ESG standards, sustainability, and legal frameworks. This marks the first step in a broader initiative to support journalists in researching and analyzing ESG topics. "Journalists are here to analyze and report on issues of public interest. They recognize empty rhetoric and demand substance. That’s why they matter—both for society and the region," said Biljana Braithwaite, AIRE Center Director for the Western Balkans. Participants explored ESG’s link to legal security, transparency in corporate reporting, and the impact of EU regulations on Montenegrin businesses. Key topics included GRI, CSRD, and the EU Taxonomy—standards for sustainability reporting. "Our goal is to bring ESG closer to the public in a way that encourages better understanding and awareness. Honest, open communication is crucial. We need to confront different perspectives, analyze information objectively, and build a foundation for societal progress. ESG is not just a corporate trend—it’s a responsibility. Without transparency and accountability, sustainability loses its true purpose. Only through cooperation, responsibility, and transparency can we achieve long-term positive change," said Nemanja Boljević, one of the program speakers.

Biljana Braithwaite: "Today, I have a unique opportunity to speak with journalists from Montenegro about ESG and the rule of law. Every day, I see how responsibly and carefully they follow the news and activities we discuss and work on—whether through The AIRE Centre Western Balkans, ESG Adria Summit, or Sustineri Partners. In Montenegro, there is a high level of social responsibility among the media to share information about the country’s progress, and this is an exceptional asset and a great opportunity for us. That is why we have decided to establish the Sustainable Adria Media Programme, involving journalists on the ground. We want to receive feedback, to understand where we may be making mistakes, what we need to improve, and how we should be presenting good stories, as well as those that deserve deeper investigation. Journalists and the media are not just there to gather three statements and put together a report. They are there to analyse and convey information that is in the public interest. We must respect them, acknowledge their role, respond to their questions, and provide them with information that has real value. They are the first to recognise empty rhetoric and will not accept words devoid of substance. That is why they matter—both for society and for the region."
