Richard Hammond has announced he has split from his wife of 23 years Mindy but said they are ‘proud’ of the family they have created.
The Grand Tour star, 55, and journalist Mindy, 59, married in 2002 and share two daughters Isabelle, 24, and Willow, 21.
Richard revealed they had parted ways in a statement on X and explained they spent Christmas together as a family but would be ‘structured differently’ in the New Year.
He said the former couple had enjoyed an ‘amazing’ relationship and would ‘always be in each other’s lives.’
The former Top Gear presenter did not cite a reason for the break-up and added they would ‘not be commenting further.’
On X, he wrote: ‘A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently.
‘Our marriage is coming to end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters.
‘We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created.
‘We won’t be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy.’
Richard and Mindy were flooded with messages of support on social media, with @SeanMurphy29 saying: ‘Sorry to hear that buddy. Best of luck.’
Echoing their sentiment, @waggenator said:’Best of luck Richard and Mindy.’
@mnix86 added: ‘Really sorry to hear this, but what a lovely wording to announce it.’
Richard and Mindy first met in 1995 when they worked at a London PR firm.
In his book, On The Edge Of My Story, he said it was love at first sight, writing: ‘In an instant, I fell in love with her and realised I had met my soul-mate and best friend for life.’
Mindy also supported Richard after his near-death accident in 2006 on Top Gear. She revealed that her husband didn’t recognise her as he suffered from memory loss.
