  • Suwema Chabwera: From Struggle to Stability Suwema Chabwera, a mother of three from Mbenderana village, TA Kasisi in Chikwawa District, once faced the harsh realities of food insecurity, inadequate shelter, and limited access to basic needs. Life was a constant struggle, with her family often going hungry and living in a fragile grass-thatched house vulnerable to storms. In 2024, Suwema’s household joined Yamba Malawi’s Tikwere Project funded by FARMSE and IFAD through the Malawi Government, receiving financial literacy training, nutrition education, and WASH guidance. Through the program, she received the first phase of a seed capital grant of MWK 260,000 ($150). With this support, she started a rice-selling business that has become a steady income source. With her earnings, Suwema invested in goats and improved her home by purchasing iron sheets to replace the leaking grass roof. Her family now enjoys financial security, better nutrition, and access to healthcare. Grateful for Yamba Malawi’s support, Suwema reflects, “I can now provide for my children and plan for a better future.” Her inspiring journey showcases the transformative power of determination and targeted interventions, serving as a beacon of hope for her community.

  • Annie Chabvalira: A Journey from Struggle to Success Annie Chabvalira, a mother of three from Chaola Village, Kasisi, once faced significant financial hardship, struggling to meet her family’s basic needs. Today, thanks to the Tikwere Project by Yamba Malawi, in partnership with FARMSE, Annie’s life has transformed. With a seed capital of MK 260,000 from the Tikwere Project, Annie launched a small business selling local chickens and maize, which has since grown, providing her family with a steady income. She also expanded her assets by purchasing goats, further strengthening her financial security. Annie is an active member of the Tilimbike Village Savings and Loans (VSL) group, where she learned effective savings and investment strategies. This has helped her manage her finances and grow her business while ensuring her household’s stability. One of her proudest achievements is the transformation of her home. With her increased income, Annie extended her house and replaced the dirt floor with cement, creating a safer and healthier environment for her children. The financial mentoring from Yamba Malawi has been key to her success, providing essential skills in business management and budgeting. “The support from Yamba Malawi and FARMSE has changed my life,” says Annie. “I can now provide for my children, send them to school, and dream of a brighter future.” Looking ahead, Annie plans to expand her business and continue investing in her children’s education. Her journey is a powerful example of how financial empowerment can lift families out of poverty and create lasting change.
