Our Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Network recently convened to discuss upcoming priorities for 2025. Led by the Network Chair Natasha Zulkifli (YTL Construction) and Sharath Martin (ACCA), the discussions productively focused on the direction of this year's digital campaigns (i.e. spreading awareness of marginalised communities, and reinforcing the Network's ethos by highlighting the importance of equity over equality. For their attendance and contributions at the meeting, we extend our thanks to Mastura Adnan and Nursophia Zahayup (Standard Chartered), Norhasniah Kusnin and Aizat Saudi (Arup), Janike Ratnapola (bp), Soo Fern Lee (EY), Xin Zhe (Celia) Chai (Mott MacDonald), Dato' norashikin ismail (Synthomer), Nina Jamil (YTL Construction), Esther Yap (Mazars), and John Preston (Intermovers ).

We recently engaged the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT UK - UK in Malaysia) to discuss 2025 plans for advancing UK-Malaysia bilateral trade in the Digital and Tech industries. This discussion focused on plans for upcoming trade missions and potential events hosted in the UK and/or Malaysia. We thank the MDEC team, represented by Zulhusmie Aripin and Marina Ndjoze (Digital Investment), Mohd Faiz Mohd Nor (Global Alliances), Fify Aznil (Market Access); as well as the DBT UK team, represented by Francine Torbett and Sybil Priya Lasrado, for being part of the meeting.

The BMCC's Healthcare Committee held its first meeting of the year on 6 January 2025 to discuss priorities, direction, and areas for improvement. The meeting included a special session with distinguished guest, Dr. Yap Wei Aun, CEO of the Health Transformation Office at the Malaysian Ministry of Health. Discussions focused on key topics such as private financing, talent and human capital management in the healthcare industry, and primary healthcare transformation. This week, we were thrilled to have David Wallace, Acting British High Commissioner to Malaysia, visit us at our office in Menara IQ. Our CEO, Jennifer Lopez, and her Executive Assistant, Azizul Hakim Sapi'ee, welcomed him with a tour of the BMCC office and an introduction to the team in the executive office. This visit was a great opportunity to formally introduce him to the Chamber and explain the details of our services and operations. We discussed how we could build up our members, support the priorities of the UK government and the British High Commission in Malaysia (UK in Malaysia), and collaborative plans on activities to promote bilateral investment in the UK and Malaysia. We look forward to working with him and the British High Commission in Malaysia over the new year to further UK-Malaysia trade relations.
