This year, the UK and Malaysia continued our green finance collaboration through a new partnership working through MOBILIST and Bursa Malaysia to tap into the potential of Malaysia's public capital markets to close the climate finance and investment gap.
Ramping up climate investments in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) is critical to ensuring the world can reach its goals to curb global temperature increases and respond to the impacts of climate change. A new report by the Independent High-Level Expert Group on Climate Finance released at COP29 Azerbaijan this week has reaffirmed that the greatest need for increased climate finance is in EMDEs (excluding China). https://lnkd.in/dHbKM4_c These economies will account for almost 45% of the average incremental investment needed for climate action from now to 2030. Their needs can only be met by harnessing all pools of finance, including private capital. Public markets boast a global market capitalisation of over $230 trillion. They hold untapped and unparalleled potential to mobilise institutional capital to invest in EMDEs at the scale needed to meet the climate challenge. MOBILIST and our partners are working to harness this potential, to ensure that public markets are part of the discourse, suggested reforms, and innovative solutions needed to close the climate finance gap in EMDEs. #COP29 #whypublicmarkets #climatefinance

Harnessing behavioural insights for better health | One Young World Ambassador | Chevening-JCF Scholar '20 - MSc Health Psychology
Having been elected to the Chevening Alumni Malaysia (CAM) Committee in 2024, one of my goals is to leverage the diverse expertise and network of the CAMmunity to give back to underserved communities — as part of a broader mission to democratize healthcare in Malaysia. Following a CAM Health Hub networking session in March, a couple of Cheveners came together to conceptualize a bid proposal (within five days!) for the global Chevening Alumni Programme Fund. In June, we were thrilled to be selected — receiving this news was almost as exciting as getting the Chevening scholarship! Project Healthy Futures is an inaugural community project by the CAM Health Hub, which aims to promote vaccination and speech language development for child & adolescent health among Orang Asli (indigenous people) in Malaysia. 🤝 From the outset, our approach was centered on community engagement. We adopted a participatory approach to health education — we spoke to community leaders/members to co-design materials that were culturally relevant and resonated with the specific beliefs and concerns of the Orang Asli. Through trust and collaboration, this approach helped overcome barriers like vaccine hesitancy and raised awareness of early childhood development issues. 🤝 Drawing on expertise in public health, community engagement, behavioral science, community pharmacy, speech-language development, communications and more, 25 CAMrades and volunteers contributed to four workstreams over the past three months: community engagement, communications & media, event management, and health education. It was an absolute joy to co-lead this project with Devi Shantini Rata Mohan alongside the brilliant Core Team 🌟 Chia Yi Tay | Edmund Ross Williams Hunt | Shiau Hueh Yeow | Meera Sahani | Murallitharan Munisamy. A huge shoutout to our amazing CAMrades & volunteers who brought so much energy and creativity ❤️ Viviantie Sarjuni | Cui Ying Ee | Joyce Toh Ker Ro | Nicholas Yee Liang Hing | Sr Kavitha Seras | Safiya Mohd Razif | Russell Rohny | Nisha Kaur Gill | Ming Lee Chin | Abigail Nathan | Navittra Sagar | Nur Hazirah Mohamad | Sonia Lasong | Jou Ling Teoh | Nur Afifah Ismail | Mohd Izwan Zainol | Cho Kai Shuo | Zafirah Mahirah Thankful to our partners who made this project possible: Chevening Awards CAPF | Chevening Alumni Malaysia | UK in Malaysia including our service delivery partners National Cancer Society Malaysia for free HPV vaccination and Malaysian Association of Speech-Language & Hearing for free speech-language development screening. Here’s to building a stronger CAMmunity that serves the community in Malaysia! PS: Photos shared with consent.
🌿🌟 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 🌟 🌿 On 6 October 2024, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 arrived at Kampung Orang Asli Batu 6, Tapah, Perak, for an inspiring day dedicated to health education, wellness support, and community engagement. With the incredible support of our partners—Chevening Alumni Malaysia (CAM), British High Commission Kuala Lumpur (UK in Malaysia), Chevening Alumni Programme Fund, MASH Malaysia, and the National Cancer Society Malaysia (National Cancer Society Malaysia)—we delivered meaningful services and created lasting memories 🤍🕊️ The event featured various activities, including educational talks, fun games, free HPV vaccinations, health screenings by the Malaysian Association of Speech and Hearing, and lively community engagement. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event a success. Together, we are shaping healthier futures! 💪💚 ✨ Project Core Team: Liyann Ooi | Devi Shantini Rata Mohan | Chia Yi Tay | Meera Sahani | Shiau Hueh Yeow | Edmund Ross Williams Hunt | Murallitharan Munisamy #CheveningAlumniMalaysia #MASHMalaysia #NCSMalaysia #CommunityHealth #CAMmunity #CAMHealthHub #HealthAwareness
