I launched the Malaysia Pavilion at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, organised by the Ministry of Digital and two of our agencies: the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). We are not just here to showcase the cutting-edge technologies and innovations developed by Malaysian companies, but also to share our aspirations and ongoing initiatives in shaping a future for Malaysia and beyond, where cities are intelligent, sustainable, and citizen-centric. Above all, I was pleased to announce the inaugural Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur, which will take place in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. This will provide a golden platform for Malaysia to bring together solutions and experts from around the world in building smart cities, while showcasing Malaysia’s local talent and innovation. We had a wholesome get together at DNB’s CEO Townhall-cum-Deepavali celebration yesterday! The company’s newly-minted CEO Datuk Azman Ismail shared some thought-provoking and inspiring insights in his maiden speech, and took the opportunity to answer a few questions from the staff, some of whom joined virtually all the way from East Malaysia. DIGITAL NASIONAL BERHAD (DNB) WELCOMES DATUK AZMAN ISMAIL AS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER The Board of Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Datuk Azman Ismail as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective tomorrow, 23 October 2024. Datuk Azman’s distinguished 36-year career has seen him hold pivotal leadership roles, most notably as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PLUS Malaysia Berhad. During his tenure, he led impactful digital transformation and change management initiatives, garnering widespread recognition both in Malaysia and across the Asia Pacific region, as well as on the global stage. Prior to joining the toll highway operator, he was Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and, concurrently, the general manager of its retail business, overseeing Shell’s petroleum retailing in Malaysia and Brunei. In his 30-year career at Shell, Datuk Azman held strategic roles in the operations, retail, and finance departments. As Datuk Azman takes on his new role at DNB, the company is confident that his extensive experience and astute leadership will drive DNB’s efforts in its next phase of development as the company continues to advance Malaysia’s 5G adoption across consumers, enterprises and public services, and support the nation’s digital transformation.
