The future of healthcare lies in sustainable innovation. At COP29, our Group CEO, Dr Prem Kumar Nair, addressed one of the industry’s greatest challenges: Scope 3 emissions, which account for 70% of healthcare’s total carbon footprint. Tackling these emissions is a key milestone in our journey toward Net-Zero by 2050. Dr Prem underscored the complexity of reducing indirect emissions across supply chains, emphasising the need for bold action and collaboration. While we’re on track to meet our 2025 targets for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, our focus is now on establishing a Scope 3 baseline by 2027. Key initiatives include reporting on business travel and employee commutes, rolling out a Global Responsible Sourcing Policy, and partnering with suppliers and healthcare providers to collectively drive down emissions. Our Group Head of Sustainability, Yasemin Tecmen Stubbe, also attended COP29, reaffirming our commitment to meaningful sustainability efforts. The recent launch of the Acibadem Healthcare Group Ataşehir Hospital Breast Centre exemplifies our commitment to providing both hope and healing. Under our guiding motto, "We Are Ready for Every Round," the Breast Centre focuses on empowering people with knowledge and preventive care. At the launch event, breast cancer experts and resilient patients shared personal stories and the essential role of routine check-ups. As Breast Centre Manager Prof. Dr. Metin Cakmakci emphasised, early detection dramatically improves outcomes. Annual ultrasounds for women under 40 and mammograms for those over 40 are vital steps in safeguarding health. Stories like that of Gökçe Kemancı, whose mammogram at 46 led to early detection and personalised care, and Ayşe Aras Akpınar, a mother balancing her health journey while providing for her family, remind us of the strength and courage within our community. We are pleased to announce that through our subsidiary Pantai Holdings, we have successfully issued our inaugural Sukuk worth RM4 billion under the newly established RM15 billion Sukuk Wakalah Programme. This strategic initiative not only diversifies our funding sources but also strengthens our growth initiatives in Malaysia. This programme is designed to enable the issuance of both sustainability and sustainability-linked Sukuk, aligning perfectly with our capital management and sustainability goals. Proceeds from the initial issuance will fund our recent Island Hospital Penang acquisition, an asset with strong operations in Penang. Our Group CFO Dilip Kadambi shared: “The acquisition of Island Hospital allows IHH Healthcare to build on its leadership position in Penang while also providing a platform for future growth with capacity expansion and greenfield opportunities in addition to being financially attractive and ROE accretive. This transaction was financed through the Group’s first ever issuance of RM4 billion unrated Sukuk through the Sukuk Programmes at optimal pricing and is one of the largest Sukuk issued year to date in Malaysia." In his talk, "Healthcare Innovation: Shifting from Treatment to Prevention," Saurabh spotlighted the transformative potential of proactive, prevention-based healthcare models powered by digital advancements.
