Moving towards a more inclusive and sustainable energy sector Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) is a cross-cutting theme of the BRILHO. The programme focuses on its efforts on the capacity building and inclusion of professionals, both women and men, from the public and private institutions in the off-grid energy sector in Mozambique. Through these interventions, the programme intends to strengthen the capacity and performance of companies participating in the Market Development Fund (MDF) promoting equitable representation and participation with an emphasis on women´s inclusion at all operational levels and in existing opportunities within companies and the sector. These actions are being implemented through training, financial incentives for technical training of women and technical assistance to companies, leading to institutional commitments, policies and concrete actions aimed at establishing an inclusive and gender-sensitive working practices, ensuring a fairer sector and providing accessible energy services for all. Currently, 39% of employees in BRILHO-supported companies are women, out of which 23% are in technical roles - above the African average (20-25%). To further improve this representation, BRILHO organised a course on leadership, gender equality and social inclusion in Nampula from 4 to 7 February, in partnership with SDO Moçambique The event joint 14 managers and employees from key sector institutions, including #FUNAE, #Ignite, GLP, BURN, the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Nampula, and #TLComunicações. At the end of the first session of the course each participant has designed a plan for professional development and an institution plan to influence positive towards gender equality. 🚀 New Report Release: BRILHO - Transforming Off-Grid Energy Access in Mozambique 🌍 We’re excited to announce the release of our latest report: Transforming Off-Grid Energy Access in Mozambique: The BRILHO Programme Contribution. The report captures the roles BRILHO and other programs played in catalysing Mozambique's off-grid energy market, which has witnessed the following since 2020:  🌟 Remarkable market acceleration process since 2020 with a geographical footprint expansion reaching all provinces across the country; 🌟 There is a diversification of stakeholders, particularly among the private sector; 🌟The off-grid energy sector results have reached a scale that represent a meaningful contribution to access to energy, with annual SHS sales from 2021 that accounted for more than 20% of the new access to electricity connections achieved nationally; Over 540,000 solar home systems and 475,000 improved cooking solutions sold in Mozambique. The report is produced by the BRILHO Programme, funded by the Governments of the United Kingdom and Sweden and implemented by SNV.
