🌍 BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE WITH CIRCULAR DESIGN THINKING AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY PRINCIPLES In today's rapidly evolving world, access to quality digital education is crucial for empowering communities and fostering sustainable development. However, many low-income communities still face significant barriers to accessing the necessary technology and resources. This is where CIRCULAR DESIGN THINKING and the CIRCULAR ECONOMY come into play, offering innovative solutions to make digital education more accessible and sustainable. CIRCULAR DESIGN THINKING focuses on creating products and systems that are regenerative and sustainable. By applying these principles to digital education, we can: 🔄 Extend the lifecycle of digital devices through refurbishment, reusing and repurposing, making technology more affordable and reducing electronic waste. 🔧 Promote repairability by designing educational tools that are durable and easy to repair, ensuring they last longer and reducing the need for frequent replacements. 🤝 Foster collaboration and establish local repair workshops and partnerships with stakeholders, empowering communities to maintain their own digital infrastructure and develop valuable skills. 🌱 Integrate sustainability education by including lessons on circular economy principles in the curriculum, raising awareness about sustainability and inspiring future leaders to adopt and advocate for eco-friendly practices. By embracing the CIRCULAR ECONOMY, we can create closed-loop systems that minimise waste and maximise resource efficiency. This approach not only makes digital education more cost-effective but also ensures that we are building a more sustainable and resilient future for all. Attending yesterday's AIIDEV Africa SDG-AMP Workshop Series 4 on Design Thinking and Innovation, with a particular focus Circular Design Thinking, was truly enlightening. It prompted deeper reflection on my approach to digital education, providing me with invaluable insights and strategies for achieving the mission and realising the vision of Project DELIC. WHO PLAYS THE MAJOR ROLE IN ACCELERATING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs)? Is it the Government? Youths? Private companies? NGOs? Schools or Universities? Religious organisations? Many Nigerians, or better still, Africans, often believe that achieving the SDGs is solely the responsibility one sector more than the other, neglecting our collective role in these efforts. However, from yesterday's AIIDEV Africa SDGs-AMP Workshop Series 3, my belief and conviction that accelerating the SDGs requires contributions from all sectors was reaffirmed and reinforced. It’s clear that collaboration and collective action from every part of society are crucial to driving sustainable and impactful change. Every sector—government, youths, private companies, NGOs, schools or universities, and religious organisations—must play a part in this mission. Let’s all join hands and take active roles in advancing the SDGs for a better future.
