Empowering Storytellers: ROHI Strengthens Visual Communication Skills ROHI is grateful to United Nations OCHA Nigeria for the invaluable opportunity to enhance our storytelling capabilities through photography. 📸 During the two-day training held on December 2nd and 3rd, 2024, our team, alongside fellow members of the Humanitarian Communications Working Group (HCWG), delved into the art of visual storytelling. We explored a range of essential techniques, including: ✓Photo Composition: Framing the perfect shot. ✓Camera Settings: Mastering exposure and focus. ✓Rule of Thirds: Creating balanced and dynamic images. ✓Scene Identification: Spotting compelling stories in everyday moments. ✓Photo Editing: Enhancing images with Adobe Lightroom. ✓Captioning and Crediting: Telling the full story. ✓Photo Ethics: Respecting subjects and maintaining integrity. This training has equipped us with the skills to capture powerful and impactful images that resonate with our audience. A brief Overview of Our Activities Around the #16DaysOfActivism Across Taraba, Borno, and Adamawa States: #TarabaState ROHI actively participated in the 16 Days of Activism campaign in Taraba State, led by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development. The campaign focused on raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and its devastating impact. Key activities included: * Advocating for a family court to address domestic violence and family disputes. * Partnering with local organizations and government agencies to strengthen the fight against GBV. * Promoting gender equality and protecting the rights of women and children. * Encouraging community engagement and support for GBV prevention initiatives. * Enhancing staff capacity to address GBV through UNHCR training. #BornoState: Dikwa To address the root causes of gender-based violence (GBV) in Dikwa LGA, a one-day sensitization workshop was conducted. The event brought together various humanitarian organizations, stakeholders, and community leaders to discuss the underlying factors contributing to GBV. Following the workshop, a two-day rally was organized to raise awareness about GBV in IDP camps and host communities. The rally aimed to educate the community about the dangers of GBV and to encourage them to take steps to prevent and address it. The overall goal of these activities was to foster a community-wide effort to reduce GBV in Dikwa LGA. #AdamawaState: Mubi A sensitization event was held in Mubi to raise awareness about drug abuse and its harmful effects. A social worker from the Ministry of Women Affairs and representatives from various partner organizations, including ROHI, participated in the event. ROHI introduced its four thematic areas of focus: protection, education, livelihood, and WASH. The organization also provided information on strategies to mitigate drug abuse within the community. The event was interactive, with participants asking questions and receiving answers.
