Last Saturday, a CrosswindHKN offshore wind turbine and colleague Martijn Zondervan played a special role in the Zapp programme Klaas Kan Alles (NPO3). In this popular programme, presenter Klaas van Kruistum takes on challenging assignments and discovers unique professions. This time, he was challenged to make a jump at great heights. First at 30, then at 60 and finally at 125 metres. For that last jump, Klaas visited wind farm Hollandse Kust Noord (CrossWind). Exceptionally and especially for this children's programme, he was allowed to make his jump at high altitude - on top of one of our impressive wind turbines. Curious about what goes on in and on such a turbine? You can replay the episode of Klaas Kan Alles via NPO Start. 🎥 ⚡ https://lnkd.in/gjhR2u-S #CrossWindHKN #atheights Shell Eneco Siemens Gamesa Renzo Schildmeijer KRO-NCRV

Accelerating the energy transition
Over ons
CrossWind is a joint venture between Shell and Eneco that develops and will operate the Hollandse Kust (noord) subsidy-free offshore wind farm. CrossWind plans to have Hollandse Kust (noord) operational in 2023 with an installed capacity of 759 MW, generating at least 3.3 TWh per year. This is enough renewable power to supply the equivalent of more than 1 million Dutch households with green electricity. The wind farm will be located 18.5 kilometres off the coast of The Netherlands near the town of Egmond aan Zee. CrossWind is taking solid steps to address the challenges of intermittent wind power by delivering ground-breaking, state-of-the-art innovations, together with its partners, to demonstrate the future of offshore wind and the role they can play in the energy system. That is why the offshore wind farm will include the following five technology demonstrations that could be implemented at full-scale in the future: a floating solar park; short-term battery storage; turbines that are optimally tuned to the network to minimise the negative 'wake'-effects that wind turbines have on each other; 'green hydrogen' made by electrolysis as a further storage technique and the combination of these individual measures to ensure a continuous power supply regardless of the wind situation. Working together is crucial for the transition to a cleaner energy system across Europe and within each country. For this reason, the CrossWind team intends to work closely with universities and scientific institutions to develop further technical innovations. We intend to share the lessons learned from developing this wind farm with a broad audience – varying from the academic world to the general public.

🌊 Uncovering history beneath the waves 🌍 While surveying the seabed for CrossWind's offshore wind farm off the Dutch coast in 2022, our team made an incredible find that had been resting beneath the waves for hundreds of years: a 17th-century anchor! ⚓ The discovery is a stark reminder of our connection with the Netherlands' maritime history as well as the rich stories hidden beneath the North Sea. It reminds us that as we build for the future by generating sustainable energy, we also have a responsibility to respect and preserve the past. Watch this short video of the anchor's careful salvage, a testament to the fascinating intersection of history, ecology, and innovation. #CrossWindHKN #OffshoreWind #MaritimeHistory #Sustainability #EnergyTransition Shell Eneco

Watch this video where Mees van Vondelen shares insights from his latest wind tunnel study. This study is part of the innovation program for the CrossWindHKN wind park. #CrossWindHKN #WeInnovate Shell Eneco
In this video, Mees van Vondelen explains his most recent wind tunnel study. In this study, he demonstrates that wind turbines in a farm should synchronize their dynamic behavior to maximize overall farm efficiency. You can argue that this is similar to birds synchronizing the motion of their wings in a flock to conserve energy while flying. With his colleagues Marion Coquelet, Atindriyo Kusumo Pamososuryo, Daan van der Hoek, and Sachin Navalkar, he developed and tested several dedicated estimators and synchronization controllers to maximize the energy output of three scaled wind turbines. #HKN #HELIX #windfarmcontrol, #synchronization CrossWindHKN, GROW offshore wind, TU Delft | Mechanical Engineering, TU Delft Wind Energy Institute

Another milestone for our CrossWindHKN Innovations team! The first offshore solar floaters from Oceans of Energy have arrived in Amsterdam, marking a key step for our Innovations projects. We're gearing up to create the North Sea's largest offshore solar farm by 2025, integrated within the existing HKN wind farm. #CrossWindHKN #WeDeliver #WeInnovate #WeShare #Innovations Shell Eneco
Milestone alert: the first offshore solar floaters arrived in the Port of Amsterdam last week, straight from the Oceans of Energy factory! These modular, #prefab units form part of the #HollandseKustNoord offshore solar farm that will be installed at the CrossWindHKN wind farm in 2025. This will be the largest offshore solar farm installed in the North Sea and the first-of-a-kind offshore solar with offshore wind (and offshore hydrogen) combination. The Oceans of Energy offshore solar farm has proven itself to survive the frequent storms and rough conditions of the North Sea during 4-years of continuous operations in the North Sea, 12km offshore Scheveningen. Being the only in the world to have achieve such track record makes our #team very proud. The Port of Amsterdam is well suited to deploy our system. As we have demonstrated in Belgium earlier this year, our modular system is fast and easy to assemble: it is a matter of only days to assemble a full offshore system from factory into the water. Offshore installation of the Oceans of Energy offshore solar farms requires no heavy equipment, only light spec vessels. Oceans of Energy is preparing for tow-out of 7MW batches through the sea sluice of IJmuiden. With the support of our Client, our Partners, the European Commission, the Dutch Ministerie van Klimaat en Groene Groei and their commitment to #innovation and #systemintegration, we're proud to lead this charge in creating a blueprint for the future of offshore energy projects! #offshoresolar #morerenewableenergy #smartlogistics BAMBOO Project, EU-SCORES, Offshore For Sure
