The state of European Mobility 2024 co-authored with Via ID - Mobivia is out! In 2024, VC investment in European mobility startups hit $6B, marking a 30% drop from the previous year. The decline was felt across all stages, but late-stage startups took the biggest hit - yet funding still remains above pre-pandemic levels. Some key takeaways from this year’s mobility funding landscape: 🚗 Mobility ranked as Europe’s fifth most funded industry but saw a sharper decline than most - nearly 3x the average drop across industries. 🔋 EV battery & charging no longer dominate mobility funding, making up less than 25% of total investment as capital shifts toward asset-light, technology-intensive models. 🚀 Autonomous vehicles and sustainable aviation attracted some of the largest rounds in 2024 while segments like vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and circular economy solutions (used cars, battery recycling, second-use solutions) are emerging. 🏭 Debt financing reached a record $9B, though in large part due to Northvolt’s not fully fulfilled $5B debt round. Corporates are also playing a bigger role - participating in nearly half of mobility rounds, 2x their share from 2020. 🤝 M&A activity remained strong, but IPOs were scarce, with only a handful of small listings. Europe remains a global innovation hub in mobility, accounting for 40% of all sector deals. While the funding landscape is evolving, the shift toward B2B, asset-light, and scalable technologies signals a new phase for the industry. A big thanks to the many contributors: Pierre Gonnet, Clément Guillemot, Vincent Cabanel, Celeste Reglá Díaz, Theodora Preda, Nate Jaret,Matthias, James Jackson, Alban Negret
