Deze aluminium vleugel, ontwikkeld door ingenieur Frank Nieuwenhuis naar idee van ontdekkingsreiziger Jacques Cousteau, helpt grote schepen om tot wel 1000 liter brandstof per dag te besparen en de CO2-uitstoot drastisch te verlagen. In het echt is het nog veel groter en imponerender dan als je het in de verte op een schip ziet: de VentoFoils van Econowind. Huiselijk gezegd: een soort vliegtuigvleugel die op een schip wordt gezet als een zeil. Een welkome en waardevolle bijdrage om door het slim benutten van de wind brandstofverbruik te verminderen en uitstoot te beperken. Samen met Paul Willemse en Tjarco Wassink van het #Rijksregiebureau voor de #maritieme #maakindustrie op bezoek geweest bij dit mooie bedrijf dat koploper is in dit bijzondere product. Met Maarten van der Klip, Rens Groot en Annemarie Jorritsma nuttig gesprek gehad over wat er allemaal komt kijken bij het opschalen van dit soort innovaties.

Econowind op televisie: ‘Hijs de zeilen’ Ongeveer 90% van al het vrachtverkeer wereldwijd vindt plaats over zee. Grote schepen zijn echter ook grote brandstofverbruikers, wat een enorme impact heeft op het milieu. Om deze reden wordt binnen de scheepvaartsector volop gezocht naar duurzamere alternatieven. Bij Econowind kreeg Frank Nieuwenhuis een idee dat bijna te eenvoudig leek om waar te zijn: wat als we het zeil opnieuw uitvinden, maar dan voor grote zeeschepen? Dit leidde tot de ontwikkeling van de VentoFoils. Deze innovatieve ‘zeilen’, geïnspireerd door luchtvaarttechnologie, helpen het brandstofverbruik van schepen drastisch te verlagen. Zo dragen ze bij aan een duurzamere toekomst voor de scheepvaart. Econowind on Dutch TV 'Hoist the Sails' Around 90% of global freight is transported by sea, but large ships are also massive fuel consumers, contributing significantly to environmental impact. This has sparked a worldwide search within the shipping industry for more sustainable alternatives. Frank Nieuwenhuis came up with an idea that seemed almost too obvious: what if we reinvented the sail for large cargo ships? This idea led to the creation of VentoFoils—innovative "sails" that utilize aviation technology to significantly reduce fuel consumption. By doing so, they make shipping much more sustainable and pave the way for a greener future.
