𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗼 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 Today, on #WorldFoodDay, EFAD reflects on the 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which emphasizes that every European citizen should have access to safe and appropriate nutritional care provided by dietitians. This commitment aligns with our vision for a healthier population, ensuring 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱. Yet, the global picture reminds us of persistent hunger. According to FAO, despite producing enough food to feed the world, around 733 million people still face hunger, exacerbated by weather shocks, conflicts, economic challenges, inequality, and the pandemic. This deeply impacts vulnerable communities, many of whom are agricultural households, highlighting the widening disparities across and within nations. In Europe, #FoodInsecurity is also a growing concern, highlighting the urgency of addressing these inequalities and ensuring that everyone regardless, has the right to adequate and nutritious food. On this day, let’s renew our efforts to ensure that everyone, everywhere, can exercise their right to adequate food—𝘢 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵—and strive to support sustainable and resilient food systems for all. 📌 https://lnkd.in/dQb-C9qy

🌍 EFAD and ISA Support World Diabetes Day 2024 🌍 On #WorldDiabetesDay, EFAD joins the International Sweeteners Association (ISA) to highlight the importance of well-being and nutrition in living with diabetes. With this year’s theme, “Diabetes and Well-being,” we emphasize that diabetes can affect every part of a person’s life, impacting both physical and mental health. In a special #WDD2024 video, EFAD’s ESDN Diabetes collaborates with ISA to discuss the role of dietitians in supporting individuals with diabetes. Experts Dr Joanna Ostrowska, Martina Karbanová (Daňková), Maria Vasiloglou, and ISA’s Nutrition Science Director Vicky Pyrogianni, MSc, RDN, discuss how dietitians play a central role in enhancing diabetes care, well-being, and quality of life. 📺 Watch the video and learn more about the role of dietitians in #DiabetesCare: https://lnkd.in/e24VGs3n
The International Sweeteners Association joins the experts in the European Specialists Dietitians Network for Diabetes of The European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) in supporting #WorldDiabetesDay organised by the International Diabetes Federation. This year, we want to raise awareness about the challenges faced by people living with diabetes and the role of nutrition for a better diabetes life. Globally, 537 million people are living with diabetes – about 1 in 10 adults and almost half of them are not even aware of it, remaining undiagnosed and prone to complications that can impact their overall well-being. Discover more about how dietitians have a central role in educating people on nutrition to improve health, well-being and the quality of life of people with diabetes in our new video! Within a healthy and balanced diet, low/no calorie sweeteners can help people with diabetes to feel less deprived by maintaining the pleasure of sweet taste while managing their intake of sugars and carbohydrates. 🩸 World Diabetes Day 2024: Dietitians Supporting #DiabetesCare & #Wellbeing 🌍 This #WorldDiabetesDay, EFAD and ESDN Diabetes aim to highlight the essential role of dietitians in managing diabetes effectively and enhancing well-being. Dietitians support people with diabetes in achieving balanced blood glucose levels and building healthier, more fulfilling lives through personalized guidance and practical support. 📢 Special Focus: Diabulimia in Type 1 Diabetes 📢 We’re also raising awareness of Diabulimia, which affects 20-30% of those with T1DM and yet remains widely under-recognized. By skipping or under-dosing insulin, individuals risk serious complications like ketoacidosis. 📊 Our Diabulimia infographic offers insights for dietitians to identify warning signs, such as unpredictable blood glucose patterns, and provides tools for early detection, including the DEPS-R screening tool recommended for ages 12+. 🔗 Access the infographic and join us in advocating for accessible, innovative dietetic care and technology to improve diabetes self-management this #WDD2024.
